So I am in Vienna, Austria right now and my car is back home in the USA. My dad has been saying ever since he bought his air compressor that he would paint my car. Well it's finally being done!!! It was originally just a primer black. Don't feel like posting pictures of the car before because they're quite ugly in lots of cases. So here it is now through the paint process ...

It still has to be buffed and another coat of clear added to it. But other than that, what do you guys think???

Update! (14. September 2009)

So I thought I would finally post some photos of my car. Made them while I was home for a few weeks and after my dad did a lacquer paint job on it. Needs to be buffed, but I am wondering if the flat paint would look better. Still thinking.

Thanks guys.

Metal, it ain't a fart can, either. It's an extremely quiet, HKS exhaust. It barely makes any noise at all except when at WOT.

Like it as well. There's something about painting a car that's cool, covering all the shit and making it look great
I'm easily amused

So it the goal flat black or is that just getting ready for paint?

I wanna paint my 240 coupe BRG... but I like not having to worry about washing it and it has too many small dents and dings to just paint, I don't care THAT much

i took auto body for 3 years painted 3 cars. your paint job is going to liike like shit, b/c dust and dirt will get in it as it dries. but overall not band sanding looks nice. the front looks like it could have use some bondo and primer surfacer

I have to say, it looks good so far, but the reason that body shops charge a fortune for a paint job is because they need a cleanroom to dry in.

It's now an UNBUFFED charcoal color (very close to the original color of the car). Again, another coat of clear is still going to be applied (my dad prolly already did it, though).

I know the environment is not the best to paint in, but it was the best available. I can't pay the $1000 for a really nice paint job and I trust my father more than the guy charging $200 ... I'd be there doing it myself, too, if I wasn't 4000 miles away.

Victor - it was flat black before, though.

how in the hell did he paint your car outside without the neighbors going ballistic?  quite illegal I might add    what kind of paint did he use? it does not look like he used any clear at all.  at the least it looks like he sanded it good enough that it wont all flake off the car!

The blue van in the first picture is actually probably going to be painted that color next ...

Illegal to paint outside? How so?

Next time I speak to him I'll ask and let you know what it cost.

not illegal per say but for sure not allowed and he could be fined for it. most likely a warning the first time. I hope the over spray didnt carry to other peoples cars!  or he will be paying to have then buffed.  I paint cars for a living if you didnt know.

Better then it was before, just a bit how should I say dull or it could just be the lighting. Either way it's getting betters.

Looks nicely done but really needs a few layers of clear gloss on the top to make it look finished.

Your window decals say 240sx but the back says 200sx. Which is it?

It's a lacquer paint job. You have to buff it out for the clear coat to begin to shine. It already has 2 layers of clear on it.

The 200SX is from a European S13, as are the turn signals in the front bumper (the half-white, half-orange lights). I haven't found the rear corner glass from a 200SX, yet, but that will eventually be found and will replace the 240SX glass.
