you can't make fun of the news, unless you know what's going on.
and then Stewart puts his own spin on it, for the time he's been on CC he has to be on top of it.

Not only do you need to report on serious stuff and try to remain impartial and unbiased, but you also gotta draw a crowd/viewership; one of his big advantages.

Stewart's not a newscaster he's a satirist. His show is a comedy show not a news show. Bloody Hell... Has anyone seen "Network"? I'm strongly reminded of that film right now.

A news presenter (also known as newsreader, newscaster, anchorman or anchorwoman, and news anchor) is a person who presents a news show on television, radio or the Internet.
He technically fits that description. The way they present the news is not specific to one format. Note Stewart does not always do shtick in character, like Colbert.

Whether you agree or disagree with Jon Stewart's politics, you know that he's telling you the truth whenever he speaks.

It was an online poll. Most adults don't have time to do online polls or would care to.

Online polls are good in the sense that they are made easily available to the masses. I would say that most people vote for things (of this nature) online rather than in person or over the phone. Easy access and efficiency is the advantage.

I venture to say with unemployment being what it is people don't have the extra money to pay for internet or have the extra time to take insignificant polls on a website, you know with the whole trying to find work etc.

An online poll would only mean anything to me if the same poll showed up on several different websites of various political affiliations and in the end the combined data from them were put into one report, even then I would look at it and take with a grain of salt considering the relative sizes between the viewership of each website.
