Could you guys compare the system I plan to build and my friend's system?
-folding@home points it could generate in 12 hours of use @ 90% usage
-Recommended BF2 Settings
-Lifespan for games/regular use

Also:
-Should I get Logitech G9 mouse???
-What would I use this for??? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … 6812816052

Friend's Specs:
Proc: E8400 @ stock
Mobo: Gigabyte something or other(will update when he emails me the info)
RAM: 4 GB DDR2 1066 i think
GFX: 9800 GTX+
OS: Vista Home Premium x64
Case: CM Centurion 5

My Prospective Build:
Proc: q9550 (will try OC'ing)
CPU Cooling: Xigmatek Dark Knight or RS1283
Mobo: P5Q Pro Turbo (or similar) (Will this support SLI???)
RAM: OCZ DDR2 1066 (4*2 GB)
Case: CM Centurion 590 (fan slots filled)
GFX: EVGA GTX 260/275 maybe
OS: Vista Home Premium x64 with upgrade to Windows 7 after release

EDIT: gave up on SLI, added possibility of better GFX card (GTX 275)

Protip: Only Nvidia chipsets support SLi

Which is why you should get ATi

He bought a few months ago and I want to get a computer to last longer because I am poor and can't afford constant upgrades.

If you are poor going SLi / Crossfire is just stupid... not worth the price...

I can afford this, would it be decent?

I won't be able to afford upgrades for at least 2 years, so I want to be somewhat prepared...

I plan to get a job @ some point next year to be able to upgrade sometimes, but it will not be frequent upgrading.

Ewwwww nVidia board.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … 6813128358 tbh.

It doesn't support SLi but if you are on a budget you really shouldn't be interested in SLi to begin with. It does, however, support Crossfire.

Edited OP: gave up on SLI, added GTX 275 to possible Specs.

Recommend similar price/performance ATI card, I am willing to go ATI if convinced. I have only had NVIDIA so far, and it was pretty good...

I have to agree with CrazeD here. After having quite a few of them I was just fed up. They are so finicky. Good riddance.

Untrue. SLI/CF give you the possibility to add in another card and get a very decent performancce boost later, when the card prices have drop (I mean second-hand, the prices drop under 50% in less than 6 months)

That's kind of what I was thinking, because I figured prices will drop when newer GFX cards like the GT300's come out and I could get secondhand of what I had too.

Well then just get the board I suggested, and then get an ATi HD4850, 4870, or 4890. You can Crossfire any of them down the road, they'll be cheaper later down the road then the nVidia's, and they scale better in CF.

What are everyone's thoughts on Logitech G9?

if your not intending to buy for a few months, just start reading some reviews. see whats up and comming, etc. your mind will change several times by then, as will your budget probably. And people will be just as ready to suggest a system at that time.

EDIT: I have the G9 and I like it, my only problem is that its not as tall as my MX1000 so i keep mashing the thumb key ( my knife key) while I play COD4. that and I had to disable the sensitivity key for the same reasons.

I absolutely recommend low settings for BF2. It is so, simplified!
3930K | H100i | RIVF | 16GB DDR3 | GTX 480 | AX750 | 800D | 512GB SSD | 3TB HDD | Xonar DX | W8

BF2 settings should always be mostly low, except medium or high for effects and high for geometry. Plus as high AA as possible and 100% view distance.

Because that way you can be the leetest motherfucker on the block in a game so old no one cares...

It makes everything easier to see because everything looks so shitty there are no details to help hide stuff.
