Well, my computer has a nice new tendency to start up, wait anywhere from 2 minutes to 2 hours, and freeze. No response from anything. I have to manually kill the power and start it up again. I'm thinking it could be one of three: my mobo, my CPU, or my RAM.

Mobo: Stock Intel mobo, chipset is the 915G Express (old, I know)

CPU: Pentium 4 2.8Ghz (also stock)

RAM: Dell DDR2 PC2-6400 RAM (2GB, put in 2005)

I have had no blue screens, but I have had total computer shutdowns "due to thermal events" as my boot-up screen tells me.

Which one do I replace, or do I replace all three?

Try the ram sticks individually (taken that 2GB is a kit, not one stick).

first clue is thermal events. something is getting too hot.

first clean any fans and fins. do this by blowing out the dust. DO NOT USE A VACUUM as this usually generates static electricity. You might have to take out the fans from the case to do this. don't forget to clean the PSU (power supply) fan.

this MIGHT be the only thing you need to do. my 2005 DELL had similar symptoms and now works fine.

Well, I tried both sticks individually - the problem persists.

@Stubbee - I should have mentioned that I bought a new case literally 3 days ago, and that's when I had the first "Thermal Event" warning. I laid it on one of its sides and took off one of the sides and now have a floor fan on top of it, blowing into it.

Also, I should have mentioned before that this new case has 2 fans - one near the bottom and one near the top (the exhaust) and whenever I start up, it tells me that one of the CPU fans is failing, even though I can see both of them running.
