This has been done several times over, by different people for different reasons. Ususally, they only encompass one subgenre of the incredibly wide spectrum that is techno--so here I have some stuff from every end; remixed pop, hardstyle, jumpstyle, trance, house, electronica, d'n'b, dance, handzup, euphoric dance and trance, happy hardcore, and a couple others I can't think of a name for. Yes, you'll find Cascada and Kevin Rudolf on one side, and you'll find Noisecontrollers, Brian Nrg and Daft Punk, Justice, Technoboy and Tiësto. If you want a genre you don't see, tell me, I'll try to put it in.

To BF2S, I present, exclusively for now, TSI's more-than-slightly-informed (if I do say so myself) top 100. As an added bonus, all songs link to YouTube vids, and a YouTube playlist exists. No particular order for now, I'm afraid. We can vote on the top 10 later. Oh, and all genres are represented, methinks. Some are multiples of the same song remixed differently. In those rare cases, I can't decide which version is better. Also, I'm not going to do this at once--SUGGESTIONS ARE MORE THAN WELCOME!

DISCLAIMER--I do not own any of the music in the form presented herein. I can't be held liable for any vids disappearing. Oh, and the content might change, without prior notice, and--enough of this legal crap. Let's delve in.

You should have named the thread "Electronic music top 100". It's kind of confusing when you refer to techno, then post a mix of trance, dance and hardstyle songs.

You most definitely shouldn't call this an "electronic top 100" because 99% of the above videos are absolute shite.

Jesus Christ if you say you're into techno, post some techno music. Not top 40 radio bullshit or dance-floor grope-a-thons.

You and Ioan both posted electro. Not techno. Call me a genre-Nazi if you wish but there's a pretty big fucking difference between electro with its cacophonous cymbal crashes and rock-ethic and techno with the more subliminal bass drops and bleeps. How can you call this a definitive guide to techno when you have no Chicago/Detroit scene? No Richie Hawtin? Derrick May? Acid-synths? The list is just an index of the horrific top10 club-hits of the 90's and 00's. Tiesto? Cascada? I'd rather piss in my own eyeballs than read a list that puts any of that recycled vomit into a 'top 100'.

Really love the concept of the thread, though. Can't fault that. And fair play to you for the effort and research involved! I wish I wasn't an electronic music Nazi, otherwise I'd probably appreciate this.

i knew this would happen.
Look i couldn't give a shit about the different genres, techno, elctro, electrohouse, electornica, house, minimal, trance and other 100 other subgenres.
To me i don't see the point in making these huge walls among genres, why? They might not sound 100% the same but they made in a similar fashion and share 60% similarites with eachother. Artists like to not stick within one genre, look at daft punk e.g.
Also just because we didn't mention the Detroit influence it doesn't mean everything we posted are recycled vomit. I couldn't give a shit about the Chicago/Detroit electronic music. I'd rather piss in my own eyeballs than read a list that puts any of that recycled vomit into a 'top 100'.
Yep, I attribute it more to Kraftwerk and Daft Punk. Everybody has his own's taste, you know that. I meet people who don't know even know who Pink Floyd and Eric Clapton are. It shocks and disgusts me but hey what can i do? I cannot be a dictator of music and force them to listen to pink floyd and make them worship them.

btw, Crookers and Bloody Beetroots are more Fidget House, but they do make tracks that go toward Electro House.

aero your argument that they're all made the same sucks nuts. Genres are there for a reason, and there's a huge difference between techno, house, electro, electronica, minimal etc. Death-metal and country-western are both made using electric guitars and drums - shall we categorize them together? I think it's a stupid idea to lump all things under the vague 'electronic' umbrella in the same category, because there's just as much variety and disparity as there is in analogue instruments, e.g. guitar/drums/bass. Fussing over genres is a pathetic pursuit for audiophiles, I agree, but the actual genres do stand for something and they are there for a reason.

P.S. I know Crookers and The Bloody Beetroots are fidget-house, but that's even more niche than 'electro', and even more unrelated to techno. That's going more in the direction of hip-hop sampling and glitch(hop) than techno. Not mentioning Derrick May and the Chicago classics is a bit of a crime considering all the techno nowadays sounds practically exactly the same, and they outlined the ethos and aesthetic of the genre. Cascada and Tiesto make paint-by-numbers club hits, there's zero originality and not really much techno-influence. Sorry to be a party pooper, but I love this electronic stuff.

You see i don't see it that way. Kraftwerk and Daft Punk (Early tracks and Early Album) set the roads for Eletronic music in my opinion.

That's a great link Kim, haven't seen that before.

Just checked the techno list and it has Sven Vath, Richie Hawtin, Carl Cox, Jeff Mills and Derrick May all near the top-rated.

They know what they're on about! Oxia and Magda too - relatively new (minimal) techno acts, good to see a site that's on the pulse!

@Aero: yes, electronic music. Techno is a very specific genre within the 'electronic' umbrella. And that's all that 'electronic' is really- a vague term, just like 'rock'. It doesn't really mean or specify anything. Daft Punk aren't quite on the same level as Kraftwerk but I see your point. Daft Punk practically pioneered the (Parisian) electro scene and the 2nd-wave of electro, the stuff that basically wasn't embarrassing hip-hop synth stuff like the original 80's first-wave. It's not really related to techno though - which this thread is about - and in the same way that you revere Kraftwerk, Derrick May, Carl Cox and Richie Hawtin are the revered founders and innovators of this genre.

Okay, seems like I need to clear some stuff up.

a) Techno, as I see it, is not a specific genre. It's the actual umbrella. Electronica is within it, as is everything else I posted. If one has a problem with my definition, well, fine. I'm not pushing it. But it's my thread, so I do as I wish.

b) A couple of people have accused me of putting mainstream pop acts up there. In case they didn't listen, these are remixes. Tiësto's own Adagio for strings was once a classical hit. It was remixed. Thus, it can't be held to be the same thing as the original. That being said, the songs up there are only tentative, not definite. That's why I want feedback. Just bashing the choice won't do much good.

c) We can keep arguing about what should be there and what shouldn't. Don't know if everyone's looked, but the thread is a list of the top 100. There's not even a third of that up yet. There will be some genres added which aren't there yet. There are several libraries which I need to peruse first, and that's why some stuff (d'n'b, detroit, baltimore club, Ibiza anthems, etc.) aren't up there yet. Patience!

d) Thanks for the help, as it comes. I'm not trying to make this the authoritative list, but it's one that I hope will give insight into what's out there. All support is greatly appreciated.

e) I'm working on getting a download-source available.

p.s. @ liq: yeah, agree with four of them.

I spoke with TSI last night about this I have started to compile a techno 100 got to 70 so far, I have slipped the odd trance & hard style track in there to but 80% so far is proper techno from CJ Bolland to Future Sound of London to Aphex twin.
