I'm just wondering as I think I'm finally going to make the jump to an MMO now that I've got a job to pay the fees. I'm thinking Star Wars: The Old Republic but APB and DC Universe Online are pretty appealing too.

So which MMO out of this list (or what other MMO not listed) are you most interested in?

every single one of them will fail, in time.

old republic stands the best chance but there's a lot of room for them to fail, critically and developmentally. it'll cream off the sci-fi nerds though.

the rest are terrible franchise cash-ins or mmo's riding on the transient fancies of the WoW-fanbase, e.g. Aion finding lots of success because of the chinese government's (temporary) banning of warcraft. hold your horses on the hype-mill, every single hyped MMO in recent years, regardless of their massive financing and potential, has failed to deliver- often in unforgivably terrible and amateurish ways.

Im going to get The Agency on PS3 coz its free to play.

Out of the subscription ones the old republic looks best but i doubt i will get it.

Star Wars.

I wouldn't even consider any of the others.

I used to be interested in Aion..... then I played the beta.

SW:TOR is definitely the most ambitious game of the ever, but it's ambition, as well as preexisting following for both Star Wars and Bioware fans means it's the only game that stands a chance at being a WoW killer.

Fortunately for us EA (TOR's publisher) realizes this and are funding it as such.

the term 'WoW killer' makes me laugh because it's been thrown around and used endlessly by gamers and games industry bigwigs, and every single time their 'genius' project has turned out to be such an abject failure that the mere idea becomes comic. ive read into the hype and have tried more than enough 'WoW killers' in my time to discover one concrete fact amidst all the marketing hype and fanboyism: the only real 'WoW killer' will be WoW's blizzard-made sequel, haha.

Are APB and the Agency (?) the only one's that aren't set in a fantasy or sci fi setting. There are too many bloody MMO's/RPG's out there in the cliche fantasy/sci fi settings.

People were saying the same thing about EverQuest. I remember way back in 2004, that the only thing that was going to be able to "kill" EverQuest was EQ2. However look where we are now. I'm not saying that the only MMO to overtake WoW won't be another Blizzard game, nor and I saying that it has to be SW:TOR, I'm just saying that TOR is the only upcoming MMO which does have a shot at dethroning WoW.

star wars: the old republic MMORPG stands the best chance of succeeding, but also has a huge chance of failing. one of those two scenarios is going to happen.

no matter what happens, i doubt the number of WoW players will decrease.

BioWare is the developer, but they are owned by EA. LucasArts is the publisher.
