I'm considering using the remains of my old computer to make a LAN machine. I still have the q6600 and 8Gb of ddr2 ram so I figured I'd drop them into a small tower with a cheap card.

Any suggestions? Something capable of playing modern games, doesn't need to be at crazy high settings. Also if you can think of a good, yet small case for cheap. Right now I'm considering the R-2 Toast.

$89.89 for a ASUS 1GB HD4850... Personally that seems like a pretty good option for what you're after.

Its "Open box". But the other ones are only around $99 anyway

The others are only 512mb. $10 less for twice as much memory seems good, but what is "open box?"

Open box means that someone bought it and returned it. Complete and in working order, of course.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

Not 100% sure... A product that was sent back and the box had been opened? or a product put on display and the box had been opened? ....

EDIT: answered by freezer lol

HD 4770

Less noise, heat and power consumption and just on the heels old HD 4850 performance.

e: damn hardly anything in stock tho. That Asus' cooler isn't so good they say, but should do ok.
