The vehicles in that video were right out of Planetside. a BFR walking on the ground and 2 Mosquito/Reavers flying overhead.

Planetside is an awesome game with moments that surpass BF2. Unfortunately those moments were few and far between so I quit. BF2 is much better.

Nothing wrong with the Mechwarrior series. I played for 3+ years before I found FPS games. (Ghost Recon/AA) As mentioned, some of our maps would make perfect transfers over. Karkand=Inner City/City Park just dirty

I'd rather see the Revolutionary war, Civil War, and many older wars built on the BF2 engine.

I don't know, just imagine:

64 player map
32 players on each side
4 players to operate a cannon
4 players can spawn on horses as cavalry

leaves: 24 players per side to walk down the field in a straight line abreast, stop 30 yards from each other, fire a volley, half of each line waits 15 seconds to respawn while the others take 15 seconds to reload their muskets for a second volley

Welcome to BF: Napoleonic Wars!

See ya,

I can just imagine a future General saying, "Sorry, but we turned down your model of the mech. Your funding has been cut."

"But why sir?"

"Well, they were just to uneconomic, they were a huge waste of fuel, too slow, too clumsy, and well, to tell you the truth, they were too gay."

I loved the mech series.

On topic: I think this is the way the series is headed, seeing it has been going from older to more modern. Since many fans like the historical part of it though, I think there will be a pretty big shift in players. More "Halo" type players and less "BF 1942" type players.

i grew up watching robotech and playing battletech the board game (mid to late 80s, early 90s) - mechs are awesome. true, they will never be made because they don't really make any sense, but they are still awesome. this little clip is cool! i can't wait.

I hope not, futuristic war games are kinda shit, don't seem realistic.

Stick to todays times.
What you said was an opinion. Sticking to our times means no more WWII games which have, FOR SOME REASON, done very well.

If someone can knock out a good game, it doesn't matter what timebase its in.

I would hope that this is a game, but it doesnt follow in the battlefield series.

Personally, I dont want another expansion pack (Battlefield 2: Mech Warriors) to go out and grab so I can have a laser cannon in BF2.

I really don't want the franchise to go futuristic, but it could work I guess. If they used mechs that looked like the ones from mechwarrior not those anime ones. Personally I want it to go back to World War 2, or a game with like WW1, WW2, Korea, Vietnam etc.

Wasn't the same said of automobiles at their beginning? I wonder how many of them are in the world now...

Just because something doesn't work now, doesn't mean people won't find a way to make it efficient.

Considering the m1a2 tank gets 8 gallons to the mile, and has enough residual radioactivity from the depleted uranium armor to turn you sterile....

Well for those who think Mecs like that wont exsist i would just have to say look at Hondas Robotic Man ?? now whats not to say with the big bucks the military throws at projects (B2 stealth comes in at $2billion each) its not like they can come up with the ability to run a Mech on a small nuke plant or something similar?

First off, mechs like that wont exist for combat, they are completely illogical with a poorly distributed mass and balance.  No need to bust through armor if you simply drill a leg with force and knock it down.

Mechs also have much too large of a surface area.  If an army has the ability to deliver armaments in a smaller package, they most definitly will.  Having huge targets that peek over buildings is not a good idea.  Also, the shape of "joints" is hugely detrimental, as a shell hitting that section will apply 100% of its force to the mech, as there is no way to deflect any of the force.

Tanks will always be tanks, the design is the best available way to deliver the munitions they do.  The things that will change are the fueling, armor, mobility system and armaments used.

Well, Mechs might not appear on the battlefield in real life in the future, but they could appear in a game.

Games = Fun

And games can be unrealistic and still be loads of fun.
For me a Battlemech Battlefield game would be fun

Battlefield 2 is not that realistic as well, but it is fun nontheless

I'm not worried about real life, it is just a computer game.

I would not change the current BF2 in favor of a Mechwarrior type game , however as a different game or modification the possibilites would be interesting. There would be serious drawbacks as to how it could be played though. One of the aspects of the Mechwarrior series was the ability to modify the Mech for different missions/enviroments. It would either have to be a standard mech that sits on the battlefield and you jump and go or you would have to have one of your own that was confiqured prior to the game starting.

Fun to think about though.

Well, the Kits we now have for each class could be the basic Mech configurations that you can modify with unlocks
Depending on your rank you could chose "Mechkits" with higher tonnage, but to make it more balanced only the highest rank in a game could pilot an Atlas (or some other mech in the 100 t range). There would be a problem when one side has 5 Mechs with 100 tons each and the other side has 45 ton mechs as their largest.

And just imagine the heat management, that would add a new level to tactics *sighs dreamingly*

See ya,
vonSteuben

PS: I wouldn't give up on BF2 in favour for a Mechgame, I would play them both, depending on what I want to play that day
