M1 rifle IS restricted. I tried to get one, once. Had to go through the B.S. of a restricted permit IF I wanted it.
Thats above the F.A.C. class's and rules.
At that time, I lived out in the sticks, so the O.P.P would have to come by once and a while and check that the lock-up rules and such were being used.

I'm in a city now, and had the police pay me a visit just for cleaning a paintball marker..... in my BACK YARD.
Not shooting...just cleaning.
the M1 GARAND
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M1_Garand

is non restricted based on

Definition of a Restricted Firearm

According to the Criminal Code, a restricted firearm is:

    * a handgun that is not a prohibited firearm;
    * a semi-automatic, centre-fire rifle or shotgun with a barrel length less than 470 mm (18.5 inches) that is not prohibited;
    * a rifle or shotgun that can fire when its overall length is reduced by folding, telescoping or some other means to less than 660 mm (26 inches);
    * any firearm prescribed as restricted (including some long guns).

the m1 carbine
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M1_carbine

IS restricted unless you get one of the models with a longer barrel

unless of course you mean the M1A which is made by springfield?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M1A_rifle

it's not called an FAC anymore remember

the police shouldn't go anywhere near your shit unless you set yourself as a collector and even then pretty much only if you have 10+ guns

OR you have prohibited stuff

also, they need to schedule an appointment with you to do it... it's in the regs

i'll call the CFC tomorrow again for even more confirmation that the M1 Garand is not restricted. I will also ask them about the SVT-40 since i don't think that is restricted either because the barrel is well above the required minimums, and it's not on their restricted list.

I've been in a city for 15 years now. That was the rules then.
After the move.... didn't care.
Though, I would have liked to have bought my old FN instead of it being turned into a statue some where.

It happens here too.
I once had a girl friend and it wasn't working out, so I gently broke up with her and gave her a thirty day notice that I would be moving out.
Flash forward 24 hours and I am in jail charged with making a terrorist threat. She said I was planning a masacre. They took my weapons. A week later I got them back. I will never forget the cop rolling them out in a shopping cart sans cases, scratching them to hell.

Oh, and the Sturm Ruger Co. greases a lot of whore politicians hands. We should be grateful actually; at least we can still legally own a ruger assault rifle.

I remember someone here saying that Ruger practically wrote the 1993 ban, and did so in a manner that all of their wepon would fit through some loophole somewhere.

Any reports of fire arms should be taken seriously, do you not take your guns seriously?

they should have used the wonderful flawless (even though so inaccurate it can't be used in court, and lets stolen firearms be registered on a regular basis) firearms registry first

taken seriously? yes

swat team? no

Yeah, it was pretty over the top, but at the same time, all we know is that it was reported that he was carrying a gun, but not the specifics of the report. It could have been someone he pissed off making shit up. I think the thing to do is look into who made the report and why now.

Why I said "I think..." any of these cases where a serious accusation has been made falsely should be looked into very seriously.

still not going to happen, they will never come down on people for reporting anything to do with firearms

i believe it was in Toronto  recently there was an incentive/reward program being talked about for turning people in for things firearm related

I'll give you an idea what it's like here.
A tale of two city's Detroit and across the river Windsor.

In Detroit a 80 year old woman has her house broken into. She is in bed and the burglar enters her room to attack her.
Her long dead husband had brought home a souvenir from WW2, a Luger. The pistol is in the night stand, she grabs it and starts shooting, hitting the burglar twice and killing him.
The Detroit police show up, calm her down. Have the body hauled away and recommend she take a firearms handling class.

In Windsor the same thing happens.
The 80 year old is charged with:
Position of a prohibited weapon.
Position of a unregistered weapon
Unsafe storage of a firearm
Unsafe storage of ammunition
Weapons dangerous to public peace.
Assault with intent.
Manslaughter.

This is after the local SWAT team kicks in her door.

Did you expect gun control to make sense?  How often does that happen?

Come to the US.  Just stay away from Illinois, Massachusetts, California, and Hawaii.

True:
Turn in someone with an unregistered firearm, get up to 5k.
At one point, if you turned in a firearm Blacks camera's would give you a new camera.

I have no idea how someone could mistake a washing machine and a microwave for a gun..

.. and people up here do take guns very seriously. I've never seen a firearm in public or someone walking around with it on their "property" besides that of law enforcement and military.

small update on the subject

they're voting today on whether or not to remove the "long gun" registry on non-restricted firearms

because it's retarded and serves no purpose at all.... other than a place to shovel money into never to be seen again!

and one more barrier partly down

bill c-391 is moving along nicely

for those that don't know, this is a bill to get rid of the stupid and pointless "long gun" registry of non restricted rifles and shotguns

it's getting there
