BF 2 online community still going strong?

Alright this is going to be semi-long...
So I am looking to get a new Fps, and I was looking at this game, but I want to make sure the online community is still well populated.
If I don't get this game, I might end up getting CoD4, but am giving this one a chance first.
So just let me know if there are still plenty of people online.

The booster packs are now free with the latest patch. Special Forces expansion is okay, but the original BF2 is where its at

So where can I get the game for only $5?
On EA's website I think it says $10 for just BF 2....
And I will be able to download everything I need for online play for free after I purchase BF 2?

You'll just need to download patches 1.41 and 1.5 to upgrade after installing.

I don't mind paying that because I have a b-day promo code so its only $7 something.

enzofur I was reffering to just buying a key, BF2 keys cost ~5$. If you want a game in DVD box, it's still 10$. If you purchase DVD, you'll have to wait for delivery, if you buy a key, you can download DVD image, burn it on CD and install using your purchased key. Faster imo.

My suggestion:
Buy the BF2 Deluxe Edition, which includes the Special Forces expansion.
That's everything you need nowadays since the Booster Packs come for free with the latest patch.

You can get a boxed DVD copy from Amazon for 13$.

CoD4 was pushed out to the masses way more than BF2 was, the BF franchise wasn't even notable compared to the CoD series. Hell, they even had TV adverts for CoD4. It's a terrible game and I don't recommend it to anyone.

Alright well I went to a 24 hour LAN party and played CoD 4 almost all night, and thought it was a pretty good game.
The competition online wasn't the best but w/e.
But, thats wasn't the question here ><
Don't want flaming to start.

I think COD4 is too quick, so hard to get a good k/d because there's bullets and grenades everywhere and you can't hide at all, plus the reg is so good and the fact that you can shoot through pretty much anything means any casual noob can get a load of kills, and the maps are too small...loads of people obviously love it but I couldn't play it for more than 5 or 10 minutes literally it just pisses me off, and no vehicles, and loads of other stuff about it are bad compared to BF2 I think, apart from the graphics which obviously are good- even though the maps are really linear and you can't go hardly anywhere

I've played most the game types, S&D still has people spraying through walls getting random kills, the whole game is too random and frustrating for me to enjoy

All COD's have always had TERRIBLE hit boxes, I dont know what you're talking about. The hit boxes on players are huge and aren't even to the shape of the player.

This is untrue, cod1 was amazing. Used the quake engine, perfect reg. Required actual skill to be good at the game.
