It is amazing the kind of cooling one can accomplish simply with air nowadays. Almost makes water cooling unnecessary.

I wish there was a form of colling with NO maintanence requirement...

Fans and heatsinks need to be dusted off once in a while and afaik liquid cooling needs replacement fluid once in a while?

With WC you also need to make sure you don't have oxidation around the cooling plates due to the effects of contact and heat between different kinds of metals (or something like that).

Convective cooling with electrostatic precipitation.

Anyone recommend some good and quiet 120mm fans?  Gonna throw three atop my 800d and prob going to replace the push pull fans on the H80 as I hear than can be quite noisy.

Gentle Typhoons or Akasa Apaches.

the typhoons are noted to be the best radiator fans so stick them on your h80 in push/pull config.

Been thinking of replacing the giant fans on my CoolerMaster HAF. Then I realized it would be minimum $70 Four on the side and three on top.

Sonder, why not just turn the fan speed down on your H80? On my H70, the fans can be pretty loud at full power, but I just went into BIOS and turned the fan speed to the "Optimal" setting (there were quite a few different preprogrammed ones) and now they're not loud at all. Max speed is 2000rpm, iirc, and they're at about 75% or so in Optimal setting.

I havent built it yet.  Just reading reviews and what not.  Peeps have been saying they're quite loud. Im still waiting on my bonus to buy my SSD's, PSU, and Video cards.

Ill keep this in mind though.  I was going to buy some 120's anyways with for the top of the 800d and figured I'd replace the stock H80 ones too.  Although, one review I watched on youtube said the fans were built by CoolIT for Corsair, which aren't bad.

I've always hated the stock LGA 775 coolers. Too bad I had to install one today.
Yeah those push-pins can be a bitch to squeeze in I've been afraid of breaking motherboards doing it some times

<3 my OCZ cooler :3

Even though I could use a new system :< oh well, will need a job first I guess..
Tons of people have crushed the plastic on those things trying to install the stock cooler. Some have blamed it on inexpertise and user error, but I blame it on terrible engineering. The mechanism's pretty loosey-goosey, and the unlocking angle has to be just so, or your fingernail is going to cleave into the back of the motherboard long before the heat sink is firmly locked down.

Regardless of instructions, it's also best to put these things on before the motherboard is put in because the click you're supposed to hear so deceptive. Best to make sure they're in and spread properly than to guess.

In the amount of time I spent cleaning the thing and dicking around with it again, I should have just bought a Hyper 212 along with the replacement MB, work PC or no.

I actually mastered the push pins.  I am going with inexpertise and user error.

Once you get it down they're pretty easy! However, agree that they are stupid.

I don't really think there is anything to "master" it's a pretty simple concept but I don't think the holes on some motherboards are quite big enough for the pins tbh...

At a dead idle of my CPU, Core Temp returns a temperature of 18°C on my H70 (room temp is 23°C) and during the summer at a room temp of about 25°C, I was reading 21°C. 1055T X6 processor, so add about 5-10°C on to what Core Temp returns and that's what your actual temperature is. Not too bad, I would say. If I crank it up to full power on the two fans, though, then I am definitely going to cool better.

The way I have the fans configured is to pull the warmer air from inside the case and push it through the radiators. I have a roof intake, however, that pulls in cooler ambient air from the top and that pushes the air across my RAM and right next to the water block on the CPU. Also have an intake in the side next to my GPU and a front intake.
