Unrecognised partition on hard drive

Greetings,

Once again I come to the tech section seeking help (it seems I cannot escape the problems of computers). I recently (yesterday) formatted my C drive and did a fresh install of Windows. I made sure that the format was only done on the C drive, and it was done no problem. However, upon logging into Windows XP, I tried to look for the other partitions on the hard drive, which is a Western Digital C WD10EA SCSI 1TB (From looking at My Computer hardware list). It recognises the C drive, but when I installed PartitionMagic, it saw that the rest of the hard drive was unassigned.
Is there a way so that the partitions are recognised again? Or would I have to recover everything... I would have thought that formatting C would not effect the other partitions.

Shirley it just needs to be assigned a letter in Disk Management.

Well when I look at disk management it says the C drive is recognised as 128GB, and the rest is not assigned a letter. No idea what to do... the data sould all be there, already assigned.

go to control panel, system and computer management. go to storage. and see if you can see the unallocated memory. Right click on C and expand it.

@ max: Noob question... how do I do that?
@ Cheez: 128 was the same size as the allocated C drive last time, which was the default size
@ ram: Im in storage and can see the unallocated memory and C drive, but when I right click I cant see 'expand'

@ jam: Heh, yeah I find it quite useless too.

As a last resort (which my dad seems and thinks appropriate), I am recovering everything on the other partitions. Last time I did this it didnt recover everything... it seems to have only recovered what was on the drive a few weeks earlier. Hopefully this is different, and if I cant refix the partitions then I guess Im going to hope that this recovery gets everything (Using GetDataBack for NTFS).

C=128gb that the OS was on...
how many other partitions?

When you reformatted did you delete the C partition and create a new C 128gb... then format it?

There was a C drive, which WinXP was installed on, and F, G and H drives, all roughly divided equally to what was left.
I think I just formatted the C partition rather than creating a new one.

Thanks for the software, will try it out.

partitionmagic is actually a good program. the way you explained it, it seems that a partition was made out of part of your hard drive, and the rest of the space was unassigned. the solution is simple: just use partitionmagic and extend the partition.

anyway, glad you were able to fix the problem.
