Ho ho ho I just noticed that even when I get to 180,000 poins I won't get ranked up because I don't have veteran aviator...so what happens, I stay as Colonel for ever? Kinda annoying as I'm never going to get 50 hours in a plane...ho hum. I could sit in a plane for thrity hours but where's the fun in that?
learn to fly! its fun and opens up a whole new world in bf2.
You can get the badge after you get the points requirements. But you'll never rank up again without it.
I got my 50 hours in like, two weeks.
that's really the main point behind the badges, to round you out and get you into all aspects of the game.
Colonel is a good rank, who cares about stars, you'll get 1 star, then you'll want 2, then 3 etc, then you'll be the same as countless other people.
Like jsnipy said they are to show you have experience in every aspect of the game, but no one cares I've seen loads of 3 and 4 star people who are shit at most aspects of the game, only thing it's actually useful for is applying for commander if you're desperate to be one

steelie - nah mate I tried it and didn't get into it, apart from as the bomber with a good pilot, then it's like the best thing in the game! But how often do you get that coveted second seat? not often...

h3rb4l - also true, I've seen gnerals who seem to suck at a lot of stuff, but it would be nice to have that little star. Mind you i just noticed that there's loads of colonels who have easily high enough points for general but don't have the rank, so I am not alone! COLONEL FO' LIFE, FOO!!!

What I fear is the armor badge, 100 hours in those tin can AT magnets? I'm close to Expert Aviator and Expert Helicopter, but I'm only half way towards veteran Armor.
I love Helis and Jets, and hate tanks, and for some reason the veteran tank badge needs double the amount of hours heli and jets need!

Also, the nonplus-ultra tank map is Highway Tampa.
No helis, no bombers and only one fighter jet, who occupied with other stuff most of the time.
And there's mostly only desert, so AT infantry don't have an easy job either.

Tampa is pretty much the only viable tanking map, but it's a bit boring .
Yeah that's true that it's ridiculous you need 400 hours in a tank for expert...I've spent over 1200 hours playing anbd 'only' just over 200 in a tank. And getting a pathetic 24 kills in one round after that time is easy as pie. Still, too late to do anything about it now I guess...maybe time to concentrate on my War Colllege.
