To solve #8 just use the chain rule to solve: y = x * (1-x^2)^(-1/2)
Note: 1/sqrt(1-x^2) is the same as (1-x^2)^(-1/2)

Thus:
y' = 1/sqrt(1-x^2) + (x^2) / [(1-x^2)^(3/2)]

i wish it were that easy... i think quotient rule has to be used.

the directions don't say i have to, but shouldn't it be applied? it would be the same as using only chain rule when generalized power rule has to be used.

I don't think it has to be applied. Try this as it explains using the chain rule step by step better than I ever could:

And take the derivative of: x / ((1-x^2)^(1/2))

EDIT: Sorry, I made a mistake ealier and meant to say that you have to use the product rule with the chain rule. The product rule takes the place of having to do the quotient rule.
