sourceIf you want to be famous in Bangladesh, just join farmer Mokhairul Islam on his 83,000 rat hunts and you, too, can win a color TV!
Islam, 40, has won first prize - a fabulous 14-inch color television - in a contest sponsored by officials at the Agriculture Research Council of Bangladesh in order to cut down on the pesky, crop eating rodents.
Bangaladesh officials, in an effort to cut the 1-1/2 to 2 million tons of food eaten or destroyed by the rats per year in their nation. They asked that farmers make a concerted effort, like a sport, of killing off the rats.
Nearly 500 farmers and officials gathered at an official ceremony to thank Islam and watch him receive his shiny new television set.
Islam told onlookers that he used poison to kill the rats, and collected their tails as proof of his accomplishments - 83,000 of them!
Runner-up Fakhrul Akanda, who himself killed over 37,000 rats, mostly with traps, also won a television set for his efforts to help "educate and motivate others to join him" said the busy farmer, per AP.
