So this one black guy I sit next to in 2 of my classes that I've become sorta friends with was born in Africa and moved here a few years back to continue his education. Now it's really cold now in NJ since it's almost winter and all.

So after class I was walking to my car with him while he went to get picked up by another friend of is and we were discussing the weather. I found it funny tht when he came over here it was during the spring which was to him like winter and he was telling me how much of a shock it was when it first snowed and he first felt cold.

I found that interesting.

So anyone else ever find or learn interesting stuff by talking to people not from your country or from very far away?

i've learned more about world wide issues here than in college, and met people from a more diverse culture than i could going downtown.

Heh, I'm doing an international business class at the moment, with a brilliant tutorial full of international students. Actually, my two group mates are from America

It's called a Fin-tan I think the jackasses have a deathwish or they want to look like Zoidberg, dunno. I'm a heavy user of sunblock since I tend to burn in a nanosecond. Then again some ppl don't get a tan and turn red no matter how much sunblock on their skin. Have a couple buddies that are like that.

A friend of mine from Belarus was having issues with some bureaucratic stuff and our Serbian friend said, "just give them some money and bribe them." Then I tried to explain to her that that is wrong and shouldn't be like that.

In Arab countries I have been to I have seen grown men walk around holding hands and there is apparently no sexual implication. It just signifies that they are good friends....

Did you tell him about how his country looks like the barren wasteland left by nuclear war?

In Beijing I saw older geezers doing some meditating/yoga/kata in the weirdest places that had extra space. One guy was doing his thing in the middle of a highway ramp on this grassy slice between the ramp and the highway. Dunno what's the score now but this was innnn -94 methinks.

Another one: I was at a bar with a Nigerian that I met and he asked me why there are coasters in the bar. He didn't know that you used them to put your drink on to protect the wood on the bar. In Nigeria they put them on top of the glass to keep the flies out.

The more you get burnt the longer your tan lasts, did you not know?

One of my flatmates is from Switzerland. We were waiting for a bus and it was 5 minutes late or something. He said back home when the trains / buses etc. are over a minute or so late people start phoning up there wives / colleagues to say they'll be late for dinner / meeting.

That's Tai Chi.  They do that everywhere over there.  And don't mess with them.  Old you may think, but they can put you down, gracefully.

Going and leaving Philippines, I still bribe the customs folks so they won't open my packages...

there was a Brazilian couple here on vacation during January (for some fucking reason) a few years ago, and they were horrified to see people out walking on the frozen river and ice fishing

they thought we would fall through.... except for the fact the ice was 4 feet thick in some of the thin spots.  and people were driving around out there on it, and a few small bush planes were using the straight part as a runway

they were also acting like it was -200C lol

When I left Russia, all the guys gave me a massive hug, the girls would just shake hands. I found that rather silly, said we should do a French goodbye and gave them three kisses. One of them I should have given four though

There's a Columbian chick in our programming class. She's never seen snow before and the heaviest thing she's ever worn was a light sweater, seeing as she lived in a tropical climate with constant weather.

How could I forget! I once had a relationship with a Panamanian chick and on a visit to Ireland with her friend she was given her first ever glimpse of a real live sheep in the Donegal countryside!!!! Quite odd.
