  • URGENT VISTA HELP -frozen at the account log in screen

My computer is currently frozen at the account log in screen to sign in into windows. It picks up the peripherals when it asks if I want to start in safe mode etc, but once I need to click on my account my mouse doesn't move, and it doesnt pick up my keyboard either. They are usb peripherals and I have also tried using non USB.

It happened as I was installing a program, a messenger like on for games with an overlay. Abbreviated at PXP I think. Anyway the overlay portion of the program required to install a driver, and vista said something about it not being recognised or something along those lines. It then prompted me to restart my PC and I havent been able to get back on, I don't know if it is due to this or not though.

any help is REALLY REALLY great as I may not be abke to get my hands on some disks to reformatt for a few days.

Yeah, it is also in a different resolution, with a black line on the left hand side, as though it isn't aligned.

Boot into safe mode...

Star> search for msconfig

Find the services and shits that relate to the newly installed prog. (Under services and startup)

Restart into normal.

If it works, un install the program

Maybe try a windows repair?

EDIT: wait, lulz, missed the disc part

If youre needing to just get to files in the mean time, make a linux live cd and transfer the files off

"If you are having problems starting Windows Vista, then your first step is to use the automated repair tool called Startup Repair. Startup Repair is a diagnostic tool that can be accessed via the Windows Recovery Environment. In order to start the Windows Recovery Environment you must boot your computer off of the Windows Vista DVD that you purchased or that came with your computer. To start this process, insert the Vista DVD into your DVD drive and turn your computer on."

I managed to log in using the last working option, and deleted all traces of the program.

Hooray! Karma party!
