The MBP does not have a removable battery. I think they say that it allows them to put a better battery in there and not have to worry about some kind of extra shielding or something that would hurt battery life? idk

That's a previous gen MB, right? Yea, you can't get them in black anymore. White is the only color.

I love my Lenovo, because it is functional and built extremely well. It fell off a five foot tall bunk bed, hit a wood floor, and still works perfectly - the only sign of a fall is a scratch on the top of the screen case, and a slight looseness in the sound adjustment buttons and screen securing locks. This is, of course, contrasted with someone whose Macbook fell off something half the height and become mostly usable because the screen cracked profusely. I will grant that I prefer the lightness of the Macbook, and the touchpad is superior, but in general, I'm quite glad I went with it.

I think we've reached an agreement, though:
1) Don't buy a Macbook. Buy a Macbook Pro if your budget can take it. This is assuming you want an Apple product. You can still install Windows and game on them. Price tag is the killer here.
2) Don't want an Apple and want to maybe game a bit? Buy a Windows laptop that suits you and your budget.
3) Make sure you look at as much as you can in person before you buy.

Think we got it all, right?

To be clear, I'm not saying by a Macbook. I'm just saying Windows laptops look and feel like shit, and apparently all of you love designs that were thought up in the 80's.

I see you've never used a Thinkpad.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

I have used one actually. At the end of the day, they still feel like plastic however much magnesium is hidden underneath it.

nope. know why? cause the spec in the blackbook (which was the top-spec macbook on release) still outdoes the brand new unibody ones.

best of both worlds: best looking macbook ever, and keeps up with performance. have a bigger HD and more RAM than the new macbooks. only difference is the GPU... but i dont play games or use any graphic applications on this macbook, so that really doesn't bother me at all. it's the sexiest £1100 ive ever spent on technology. with the latest snow-leopard OSX and the 64-bit apple programs, it runs faster than my quad-core SLI PC as well... go figure.

btw, i dont care how much you guys rant about the lenovos... they still look like shit. sorry. top-brand laptops could at least put SOME consideration into design and aesthetic; they look terrible, cheap and tacky... which is a shame because their hardware is pretty beastly.

Not all laptops look cheap and tacky. Samsung has put in some effort into the aesthetics of their laptops, and although they'll never lookd like a Macbook, they still do a pretty good job of looking neat.

I honestly don't care about the look of a laptop. If I need a laptop, it's because I need to work on it. I'm not pathetic or vain enough to care about how it looks when I carry it around the place. Yeah, of course it's a nice ADDITION, but it's not in my mind when purchasing one.

the specs and speed of OSX was my reason for buying a macbook... more specifically, i had used a top-spec sony vaio for a year and found the mousepad and general 'operation' very clunky and slow. without a USB mouse to hand, every task seemed to take 1.5x as long to perform. macbook solved all of that - great shortcut keys for everything and the trackpad is far superior to any other laptop i have ever owned or used. tasks seem to just get 'done' quicker when im using my macbook, and im a total novice at OSX... i know relatively little about it compared to my 8 years on windows.

My HP netbook is also very well put together now that I think about it. Certainly one of the better quality laptops around.

EDIT: All alu as well. HP 2140 for those interested.
