I have a Spanish speaking exam tomorrow, I have to learn a 200 word essay and 18 Questions and answers. It may not sound like much, but to me right now, it is a lot.

Anyway, does anyone have any tips? I suck at these exams.

Practice in front of the mirror. Speak Spanish to your friends/family. The night before is too late for this kind of stuff anyway.

You should listen to Spanish radio and watch Spanish television. Get a hang of the accent try to emulate it as best you can. I took 4 years of Spanish in high school and got tons of practice by working at a local fast food place since 90% of everyone there was Mexican. (They even complimented me on my speaking, saying it was very precise and clear ).

If you're not speaking it out loud to yourself, you're gonna fail. So many people will sit there and read it to themselves and know how it sounds in their head, but when they open their mouth, epic failure.

So do you have to memorize word-for-word this essay? Or do you just have to read it out loud?

Memorize. I'd ace it if it had to be read.

I hated doing those memorizing things. What does that bring you in your education? Nothing! No one does presentations or anything nowadays without some sort of note card or other presentation help method.

Tell your teacher he/she is full of shit and you guys should be doing exercises that actually help you learn the language. I did a year and a half of nothing but German (5 days a week, 15 hours a week) and we never had to do that shit. I'm fluent in the language now. None of my English students have ever had to do something like that either. Your teacher needs to learn to teach.

Then the entire education board need to learn how to set the course. Its standard procedure to do shit like this, it always has. I'll probably fluke my way through half the questions. I am listening to a recording of myself saying the presenation over and over in a bid to get it into my head.

Fuck, why did I chose a language for my GCSEs. What a fucking waste of time. I could have used this time to revise other useful subjects, like IT.

Is it not mandatory to take a foreign language for GCSE's?  It was all those millions of years ago when I was at school.  Some use Russian has been to me....

Well, to memorize the entire thing, you should've started at least a month ago. Record yourself saying it, burn it on a CD, play it on repeat while you sleep. Speak along to it as you're falling asleep. At this point it's too late, just try to remember the ideas and don't worry about doing it verbatim.

It's 200 words and some questions, not 200 pages. I always have to break these things down into single sentences. Do not move on to the second sentence until the first is satisfactory. When you move on to the second, start from the first : 1, 1-2, 1-3, 1-4 etc.  For me this takes about 30 minutes per page (500 words) depending on the complexity of the composition. I'm no genius by any stretch; even in another language it should only take triple the time at most.

The recording I was listening to burned the essay into my mind, but the questions were....
But the teacher had the book in front of her so I just read off it

True, but it is worse when you have a scottish accent, which a friend in my class has.

There is more to HE than cooking, they do all sorts of shit like how much nutrients we get etc. But I always associate HE with cooking becasue cooking in school was before I dropped it.
