I currently have an Evga 8800GT 512MB that is dieing on me, I was thinking of what I could do and need some advice.

I did not register the card when I bought it so I am not sure if I qualify to RMA it or not, if anyone knows if I can still do this please let me know.

If I can not RMA it, should I .....

A. Just buy a new card and be done with it.

B. Buy a new card, swap the new one for the broken one and say that it came broken, then get another new card and SLI them or get my money back, or do they check the serial number when you return/exchange a graphics card?

Thank you for any info/advice

i took apart my system and used air duster on everything and turned my fan speeds up from 25% to 90% on both my CPU and my GPU and it seems to have fixed my problem

is that possible?

Possibly, did you have a lot of dust build up?  Also, if you're a smoker, clean your computer/fans out regularly, they say the residue can create problems.  (Not sure how true this is, but I guess it's better to be safe than sorry.)

Update your GFX card drivers to the latest available driver release, and re-seat your GFX card too.

it did not have a  lot of dust at least not that i could see

I took my whole rig apart, dusted every component and re-seated the GFX card
it seems to have worked

I did also up the fan speeds on both the GPU and the CPU from 25% to 90%

do you think that will harm anything or is 90% a safe speed setting?

thank you again for all the replies

Define "dying on me"?

The only reason upping your fan speed would help is if it didn't have autostep on, so it was always at 25% instead of 25% at desktop, and 90% ingame.

Running 90% 24/7 will not break it at all.

I guess it may not be dying on me, since I cleaned my system it has only artifacted and CTD one time instead of 10 times.

so then that means it is a heat issue, why would my system start getting to hot all of a sudden when I have made no changes ?

I have all the latest drivers for my MOBO and my GPU

any one have any idea why my system would be acting this way?
