As stated before I want to keep the nomination thread clean. So discuss the nominations here.

District 9? Are you kidding me? The plot went from stupid to predictable. There were some obvious things that bothered me, like the use of modern cell phones (in the 80's) but that was forgivable.. and the aliens did look pretty damn cool. But serving them eviction notices? GTFO

I thought it was very original (albeit kooky)

Don't get me wrong,. it was an ambitious task.. merging today's racial problems with alien encounters. I just don't think they made it happen. Top Sci-fi film worthy? No way.

I wouldnt consider it a sci-fi as much as a drama really.  It was well done, I really enjoyed it.  The main character was great

My wife was never a Star Trek fan, but we enjoyed the movie. we haven't seen too many cinema releases this year, due to her schedule. and i'm not going to a theatre alone . . .

The beginning of D9 especially seemed silly. Yea, maybe it shouldn't be Sci-Fi. TBH I just can't imagine it beating out Star Trek. This Star trek brought in a bunch of non-trekies. My mom, my sis, and my daughter all enjoyed it. They would typically be the people that made fun of trekies.

The new Star Trek was totally different than the old ones though.  (This comes from me being a huge fan of the new one but not of the old ones)

Its a lot like Batman, the old ones were silly and fun, the new ones have amazing action and are totally revamped.  You cant really compare the two, theyre almost like different series.

Agreed. It makes sense considering my post . I like both old and new though.

And Liam Neeson was the only saving grace in Taken. The movie was good.. but because of one single person. His daughter was an abysmal actress.

Well Liam Neeson was really the only actor with a significant part in the movie

I wouldnt consider it the best though, Star Trek definitely won both Action and Sci-Fi this year.

No not at all the best.. and although the other roles were minimal, it physically hurt to watch some of them (in Taken).

I definitely think The Hangover >>> Inglourious Basterds though.  Honestly, if it didnt have Tarantino plastered all over it nobody would like it, it wasnt that good

IB was entertaining. More of a suspense/drama I would think. Strictly speaking comedy, yea Hangover>IB.

D9 is one of the shittiest over-hyped movies I've ever seen and I can't for the life of me figure out why people like it.

Hangover was great, IB was also great. But they're apples and oranges, incomparable.
That being said, I probably laughed more when watching Hangover, but I'd say I enjoyed and was entertained more by Inglorious Basterds.

District 9 is one of those cinema-only films, watching it on TV it all of a sudden becomes a shittier movie, but I'll still vote for it in the sc-fi category.

Inglourious was by far the best film made this year.

I thought he didn't suit the role in Taken at all.

Same, old man Willis could have been good for that role.

Worked for me.. Liam pulls bad ass quite easily. Even if the rest of the cast was a total dump.

The aliens arrived in the early 1990's, and the movie takes place in the early 2010's.
