Booked a flight with BA for an obscene amount of money while very drunk and have found a much cheaper alternative. Anyone know if they do refunds for advance cancellations?

They should do, I would have thought that it would count like any good / service that you have not used in that you should be able to have a 28 day full refund period.
checked the website, terms and conditions and all that crap but it's incredibly unclear. I'd be canceling 5 days in advance.

You can cancel, they will charge you a decent amount unless you got the flight insurance. Talk to them, see if you can swindle credit with the airline to be used at a later time.
Depends on the ticket, some are non-refundable, you'll need to ask BA.

I'm guessing you're not on a flexible fare, therefore you can either give up the flight with no refund, or change the date on the flight up to six months later from the scheduled day for a cost of £80.
