ROTC is a fucking damn good deal. I should have done it...of course, I realized this once I actually started paying for the schooling I received. Sigh.Poseidon wrote:
Of course not. Like I said though, it's still a factor.
(my friend from BOCES last year would have had a full ride to Cornell if he did Navy ROTC. He's going to SUNY Maritime instead, but damn..)
why do you think I'm doing it for Pace?SenorToenails wrote:

If I had 1) no support from the divorce agreement that says my father has to pay up to the cost of a SUNY school for tuition and for room and board and 2) no ROTC scholarship money, I'd be about $208,000 in debt by the time I graduated. And that's not including grad school which I think I might pursue.
Good decision! I didn't see that you were doing ROTC.Poseidon wrote:

I'm nowhere near 208k in the hole, but with a job in academia (which pays very little), the student loan bills I do have kinda hurt every month.
I pretty much need to do ROTC. Air Force to be specific.SenorToenails wrote:

Plus it'll keep me in shape which is always a plus.
I love the bright eyed yet-to-be freshmen. The top 10% of your class (if that) will make it to grad school . Predicting your performance for the next 4 years without even having gotten your feet wet is setting yourself up for failure; if you come to realize you are not the absolute shit the effects will be amplified by your lofty goals slowly being buried.Poseidon wrote:

Not that I've gone through it myself, it was actually a girl I hang around with, but having to reform life ambitions really messed with her. Best to leave the planning until you know what you can and cannot do is all I's be sayin'.

Hey, I never guaranteed anything. But I'm pursuing a career in law so I'm certainly going to work my ass off to get to the career I want.Pochsy wrote:

You better have a lot of money, love it a lot, or win a scholarship because that's an expensive school. It's nice there but its not worth 52 grand. Last year, when I applied, I got in and they gave me a measly 2 grand, which is basically shit. But yeah, unless you really want to go there, go somewhere else. It'll most likely be cheaper.Poseidon wrote:
Fordham University - Bronx (sent me a preferred student application and I've talked to the dean... I think I'm good)
I went to college pretty much decided that I would get to graduate school. And you know what happened? I did.Pochsy wrote:

It's not that hard as long as you apply yourself. Of course, I knew then that I'm one smart son of a bitch, so it was a realistic goal.
I don't deny having goals helps to keep you motivated and heighten your chances of fulfillment as you come to define them. No, what I'm saying is you had better be sure, as you have rightfully hinted, that you can realistically achieve them- and for students who have not even entered university I think it is a mistake to set goals dependent on something they have yet to even try.SenorToenails wrote:

Do it you faggot, I'm going to UMD College Park next semester and probably staying there for undergrad cos it's hella cheap for me and good.Poseidon wrote:
I think I might apply to American University regular decision as well. My cousin is a US Diplomat working in El Salvador and he knows the dean VERY well. He says he could pull some strings for me so who knows.
edit: Wait what is it you want to do with your life at the moment? I'm assuming it involves law enforcement in which case don't bother with that criminal justice degree. Get a degree in finance, or marketing or accounting or a science or an engineering. A lot of cops I've spoken to (both IRL and on Officer.com) say that CJ degrees are pretty irrelevant to law enforcement, and that they always get a laugh when arresting a person who's a CJ major because they start talking like they know the law and LEO procedure.

Hm, well in the case of lawyer then any major is fair game really. Just make sure you do all the pre-reqs for the law schools you'd be interested in, get a very high GPA and do well on the LSAT. Kinda like high school to college lololololololololPoseidon wrote:
