Im doing a project right now and i want to add a case fan to it with a battery. How many volts do i need to at least get it moving? Also i may in turn use a 8cm case fan in case 12 is too big for what i need.
At least 5 volts, I believe. Don't go over 12 volts.

That depends on the fan you're using. Most will start running at around 5V+
