hahaha

I think I played it a few times at a friends place... ahh the days when pulling the cartridge out and blowing on it would fix it.. I mean, seriously... what the fuck did that ever achieve? Did anyone ever collect that much dust in some plastic thing?

We played BanjoKazooie or whatever it is an awful lot.

camping in multiplayer playing with remote explosives was the best

I remember some intense battles with proxy mines and one-hit kills on.

Body armor kind of ruins matches, though.

Easily the greatest game of all time. Wish I could get it to work with a mouse on my N64 emulator...

I disagree. Shortly after the release of Perfect Dark in 2000, the N64 community was fractured into two camps, arguing which of the two games were superior. Clearly Goldeneye remained king, but I am willing to concede Perfect Dark was a valued 2nd.
Personally, I loved Goldeneye, however I remain convinced that PD was superior, but only because it was a far bigger game and had bots for MP - so the whole "Im looking at your screen and cheating lolz" went away.
However, it doesnt have the nostalgia or ground-breaking effect that Goldeneye had, and thats what keeps it up there. Hell, its the reason I bought an N64

To elaborate on above, I played it after I went to college and wasn't terribly impressed. While fun, I found the controls were terribly imprecise, the level design in MP less than desirable, and as noted, the body armor was terribly unbalanced. I enjoyed playing when I had the opportunity, but I didn't get imbued with the sense of "Wow, I just played a masterpiece". Mario Kart 64 has compelled me to procrastinate way more than Goldeneye 64 ever did, and consequently, I am unable to conclude the latter was really the best game (or even N64 game) ever produced and sold to a general audience.

(I'm not a hater, just a bit more nuanced and critical in my evaluation of the game.)

Perfect Dark is better than Goldeneye in game play, but I would call it more of an evolution of Goldeneye than anything else. Goldeneye set the bar for console FPS games back in the day. Perfect Dark simply raised the bar.

Mario Kart 64 was also fantastic, one of the reasons I love Mario Kart Wii so much - it's got all of the great N64 courses on it and then so much more.

Its definitely an fps on-ramp game for a generation of gamers. Some would say its the best ever, because it was their first real fps.
