Right... there has been some confusion lately on how German players are supposed to get the Euro Forces Booster pack since Credit Cards for the EA Downloader are not that common here as they are in the US.

There will be a "boxed" version available in standard Software Stores. This box will be at €9,99 (estimate). However, this box will contain NO CD or DVD but an internet URL and a unique download code. Using this URL, the Code and you Gamespy ID (that is your account name without the Clan Tag), you will be able to get the booster pack online. The download will be approximately 350 MB.

The estimated publishing date in Germany will be February 23rd.

I think it´s crap! Just thinking of walking to a store of my choice, buy a box for nearly 10 € and the only thing i´ll get is a Box and a fucked up code for the download! Bullsh*t, why don´t they press it on DVD or CD?! EA shoult take a look at steam or valve for the update an upgrade things.

But I´ll buy it although even if the distribution sucks...

Well, I'm basing my arguement on the basis that I'm guessing printed paper and server hosting costs is cheaper than burning CDs and Designing a CD Label and producing all of them, labor costs and machines placing the CDs into the Box

Feel free to correct me. I have no idea what server hosting costs are like.

Well, let's say EA uses that 1 TB for 10 dollars thing.

Letssay in 2 months, a total of 200,000 people buy the box at 10 bucks, and download the game.
Assuming an extra TB is an extra 10 dollars...
Each download: 350 megs.
1 TB = approx. 2850 downloads.
200,000 people requires approx. 70 TB.
70 TB: 700 dollars.
Box and inks: 20 cents a box.
200,000 boxes: 40,000 dollars. add the 700 dollars.
200,000 at 10 bucks each: 2 Million Dollars.

Profit of 1,959,300 dollars for EA.

Now if they have CDs...
No extra hosting space than for people with credit cards... that's 700 dollars off.
40,000 on the box.
200,000 hi-quality CDs at 10 cents each: 20,000 dollars.
60,000 dollars spent, leaving a profit of 1,940,000 for EA.

Then again, they probably have an even cheaper hosting service because they're EA.

well maybe when Armoured Fury is also released the put out a "gold ver" with SF/Euro/armor on a DVD... or make it on a normal CD just with Euro and armoured fury.. but this will take its time

Netherlands: No information on release yet available. Release Date is TBA, release offered so far only via eadownloader.

France: No release date set yet but a link to eadownloader is already given. Seems, France has to go for downloader

UK: Not release date set yet. No further info available. Note given that only via download available

Ireland: Same as UK....

Ok... summary: Although strictly speaking, Euro Force will be download only in Germany as well, Germany gets the option of "offline payment" via retail stores.
Information on other countries is scarce since Germany site is currently the only European EA site with a definite release date given. This brings me to the conclusion, that the other countries will have to go for eadownloader.... I might be wrong though

Is this actually true? If so, is this only happening in Germany or something? Here in the UK I can't seem to find any trace of a boxed version. Even if it is paying money for an empty box with a CD Key in it, I would rather buy that than pay for just the download. I like having my game boxes stacked on my shelf.

Well... sorry to the guys from NL, IE and UK... Germany seems to be the only country in Europe with an already set publishing date and the certified publication via retail stores via "empty" box. I guess it has something to do with our laws here concerning online purchase. After all, all purchases via phone or internet have a return right of 14 days without the need of reason why a refund must be given.

Concerning downloading via EA, do I need to have a gamespy ID? I mean, I HATE gamespy and have had legal issues with them (charging me for re-subscription when I never authorized that years ago). My credit card company took care of it and its all fine. I hate that company and do not want their crappy software on my pc ever again.
