Hey BF2s,

recently noticed my graphics card has started artifacting on occaison.

I'm gonna take this as a sign that it will soon no longer be with us, and have started to seek out a new one.

Budget is around 300CAD, wouldn't mind going lower but again higher isn't all bad either.

If you could provide a suggestion along with a link to a Canadian retailer I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks!

Specs:

Q6700 @3.33GHz
4096mb DDR2 @ 800mhz
Nvidia 650i
8800GTS 512mb

Resolution is 1920x1200 primary, 1280x1024 seconday.

Also; I realize the motherboard is dated but the graphics card is going now while the board can probably hang on a couple more months.

If you can wait for a little bit, the new DX11 Nvidia cards are comming out and should create a price shift in the market. You will get more bang for you buck then.

Yea I was looking at that on Newegg, for about 329.99

that definately looks like a steal though, will take that into serious consideration.

As far as Nvidia chipsets and ATi cards are concerned its all sound correct?

yeah, haven't used an Nvidia chipset but I haven't heard of any problems with them going together.

Thats about the best deal you will get on a 58** series card until after the new Nvidias come out as well.

I just got the 5770 for Christmas. Brilliant card. DiRT 2 - Ultra high, 8xAA, 16xAF, 2560x1024 (Dual Screens) 30 FPS.
L4D2 all max, 8xAA 16xAF 2560x1024 120 FPS (don't know if that's capped though).

I'm still on the fence for my build that I want to do next year. 5770 or 5850? I'll have to see what the prices are like when it comes time to actually order the parts.

Well a 5850 has the performance of two 5770s in CF, but costs about £30 less. If you have the money, go for it.

check out alot of the charts in this review, techpowerup includes alot of games in their reviews, so you can pick a card that performs well in the games you play. This review includes cards up to 5850, some of the others include up to crossfire 5970s.

Oh shit.

Those 5850 benchmarks are impressive, think I'm nearing a decision

How long until new Nvidia cards to lower my prices?

I've been following the reviews, I know where the performance for each card lies. Again, when it comes time to build and order everything, it's just a matter of seeing what it all costs. I'm going to be forced to do a full bottom to top build: case, monitor, keyboard and everything to make it work. Gonna be pricey, so again, have to see where prices lie. I'd love to get the 5850 just for a bit of future-proofing, so that's what I am aiming for.
