With my recent purchase of a 22" monitor, I'm looking into sound options for my room, I currently have a 5.1 receiver plugged in with a speaker in each corner of the room, but for now I just have stereo sound going into it with virtual surround enabled.

The receiver has an Optical in, and I want to use that as my sound source for when I'm watching movies, but my current sound card doesn;t have optical out.

Does the price of a sound card that you'll only be using for the optical out influence the sound quality?

The reviews say the sound is good but not great, but that's after it's gone through the D/A converter, do sound quality reviews really apply when you're JUST using the TOSLINK?

Recommendations for other cheap cards with better quality?

When you're using a digital connection, the quality of the soundcard doesn't matter at all

Cheap cards have jittery outputs. You won't be using card's onboard D/A, that is true Donkey but then you better have a really good D/A in your receiver.

JVC TH-C4 Home Theatre in a box With the stock speakers.

I doubt the D/A'll be worse than the actual speaker/amp components so I aint  too worried
