Hey guys, I've got an unused Xbox 360 controller lying around, and I was wondering if I could use it with my pc, and what cable I would need to do such a thing?

Had a search online but it only came up with ways of how to basterdise existing cables

You either need the cord that makes it wired or need to buy a wireless receiver to enable it wirelessly.

Unless you have the wired one, but that's doubtful.

You need the plug and play kit to connect it USB-wise, or get the receiver, but the receiver if used with too many USB products can make other USB connections fail.

Actually, that's bullshit. Because you have an old 360 controller, you aren't going to get it to work any other way but by buying a wireless receiver. Which is a total waste of money because you can buy a wired 360 controller for about the same price.

The Plug and Play kit only works for controllers that state "For Windows Games", but the older controller versions don't allow data transfer with the Plug and Play kit, just recharging.

RIght so I'm better just buying a wired 360 controller?

If you already have a wireless controller, you can get a wireless adapter for £X. You can also buy a wired one for £X.

So wouldn't you rather get a wireless one for the same price?

Why couldn't you have made this topic two days ago? Would have saved me some hassle

If you buy a wired controller it's compatible with both PC and X360 anyway

Yeah most games that are on the PC and 360 have support for it like that.  The only thing that's annoying is that some of them don't replace the mouse and keyboard controls on screen with the controller controls, makes it really hard to figure things out.  Saint's Row 2 was a bitch especially for that.
