OK, a friend of mine is leaving to study in the USA for a semester and I wanted to put together a small gift for him. My plan is this: Buy a small jar of jelly, a matching size jar of peanut butter (they're all small here in Austria) and a small bag of sliced toast bread.
Then I wanted to make a little folder with collections of "classic" American college dorm room foods that are quick and easy and cheap to make. Not packaged foods, but actually something you make (i.e. peanut butter and jelly). I've got hotdogs (microwave), peanut butter and bananas, Ants on a Log (celery stick with peanut butter and raisins on top) ... but I've run out of ideas. I'm going to put in the folder of recipes a tip for ramen noodles, but that's really not the kind of thing I am aiming for. Again, I want recipes and not packaged food tips.
