OK, I need to rant...

Just got the results back for my Data Modeling exam - FUCK! Apparently there is one question on the exam that they will knock off LOADS of points for small mistakes (drawing an Entity Relationship diagram) and what's worse is that you have to get 23 points or more on the final exam to pass the course AND also have at least 50 points in total when you add together all the smaller assignments and tests we've had already this semester. I got 58 points out of the entire class and only 21 on the final exam. And the question where they're clearly really strict? 2/16 points! So now because of 2 measly points I might have to repeat the exam and/or the entire class... I have to wait until March (a whole friggin month) to go and look at the test and try and fight for the points (though who knows how lenient they are). Fuck me...

Well hopefully you have to repeat only the exam.
I mean.. repeating the entire class would just.. suck.

I really do have to ask how you can do an entire question and receive 2/16 on it. I mean, that's a little more than the examiner being strict- that's just you not knowing your material. At that level of difficulty it may as well be perfection or failure.

Ya, I wonder myself where the points are getting pulled. Though the thread that's running right now is showing everyone getting hit really hard by that one question on the test - lots of people got LOTS of points docked for it. I remember drawing the model perfectly, though - but we'll just have to wait until March and see...

Best of luck, though. I've been in situations where TA's will mess up the grading on 100+ exams because they thought the question asked something entirely different, or because the answer sheet given to them by the professor was actually wrong. You can only hope that's the case here if you are certain you completed the question to near perfection, coupled with the fact that many other people seem to have stumbled on that particular question.

Obviously its dependent on the university, the faculty and then the Lectures. But the results can be anything from a "You passed everything else so we'll just pass you for this too" to a "Fuck off we don't care, come here next semester and see if you can do better". With as many possibilities you can think of in the middle, including doing a make up exam, having to do a short make up course over the holidays or giving the teacher a blowjob for some extra marks.

Hope you don't get robbed of those points man. I'm sure it will work out in your favor in the end. Have some confidence. If you know you drew it right then don't worry. Hope for the best but be prepared for the worst.

Well it's not TOO bad if I don't get the two points given to me - I can do three more retake exams. I just HATE retakes, because they're always harder than the second. I emailed the professor and he's going to give me an appointment to come and see him a month earlier, thankfully. I'd like to know if I have to do the retake so I can start studying for it as soon as possible rather than only have a week like it would be otherwise.
