So, i went to a gas station next to my house to buy oil for my car and after i've put it in i tried to turn the engine on and it wouldn't.
I thought it must be the cold weather, its 2°C so i waited a bit, turn the keys halfway and then tried to turn the engine on again...it wouldn't.
After like 5 times it turned on but there was smoke coming from beneath the car so i quickly turned it off. Got out, checked the car a bit and it smelled awfully if something was burning. I got in again, turned the car on and moved the car bit forward, and then revved a bit, up to 2000-3000rpm. There was no smoke. This was really troubling me. I got out went to the back and my rear lights were on even if i was in Neutral. I saw a neighbor and asked him if he could stand in the back and see if the rear lights were on. He said ok so i put Neutral, 1st, 2nd, 3rd etc and the lights were still on. What the fuck? I'm sure i'm using the right oil, have been using it for a while. Full-synthetic diesel oil and it never gave me any problem.
I'm not a car expert so i need some help.

Btw the car is a 2005 VW Touran 1.9 TDi.

I suggest you get that vehicle to a garage as soon as possible.

No amount of speculation on internet forums will tell you whats wrong with it.

Unless there's a mechanic here who can help him diagnose the problem ... perfectly plausible.

did you check whether you needed oil in the engine first?

Regardless, if you didn't need it you've put too much in.

Just drive, the excess oil will be burned off, that's what the smell is, and there might be a bit of smoke.

Black smoke is usually down to too much oil, and the engine's having trouble burning off the excess. Get it into a garage regardless.

Ha!

Reminds me of when I was a kid, my parents had a gas pump at their house with both deisel and regular gas. Their friend came over for dinner on his motorcycle so they told him to fill it up before he left. Long story short, he topped off his tank with deisel and off he went. About an hour later we got a call from him. I guess about half way home he noticed a huge plume of smoke following him and his engine started backfiring. He said it was the biggest blackest cloud of smoke he'd ever seen coming from such a small engine. goot times

Did you spill some oil on the engine?

A diesel engine takes a while to fire up in colder weather, especially with an old car battery (4 or 5 years old).

hahaha Im not in the posistion to call him a muppet.  I left the gas station (I see how hard I try), drove past the 'soccer' stadium and pulled into my mates garage, even with mates rates it cost a few hundred to empty the tank and do something else.  Was my works van.  The smoke looks like a Cheech n Chong vehicle, cough cough splutter
