Here are the choices

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications … etailspecs

and

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications … etailspecs

No BS about rebuilding, why bother etc. Just want your choice on the better card...

Thanks in advance

The 4670, by far.

But be warned, you're probably setting yourself up for a big, salty bottleneck.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

While i clicked my fav'rite bookmark, suddenly there came a warning, and my heart was filled with mourning, mourning for my dear amour, " 'Tis not possible!", i muttered, " give me back my free hardcore!"..... quoth the server, 404.

AGP = old PC. With your slow CPU you won't be able to use that card to the fullest

I forgot to post his specs in my OP, P4 I think 2.8 or 3.0Ghz, 3GB ram, ATI 9600 128Mb video card.

I more or less did the same thing with my old P4 system roughly a year ago. I went from an ATI 9800 128Mb card to the X1650 w/512Mb, which performed worse than the 9800, well, at least playing BF2 it did. Could my problem also have been a "bottleneck?"  The X1650 seemed to stutter quiet a bit compared to the 9800.

Thanks again for your input.

I actually have a Pentium 4 of one of the last generations right here with an X800. BF2 is more or less unplayable on big servers, regardless of graphics settings. Them old guys simply don't have enough raw grunt.

If I had a brain, I'd be dangerous. Just realized I never posted his problem...

Anyway, in his attempt to play BF2, his system crashes. I think the majority of the time his system crashing requires a hard reboot. Sometimes it just crashes to the desktop. He can play anywhere from 5 minutes to an hour before a crash.

The only time he gets a crash is playing BF2...

If I'm not mistaken, he's upgraded his power supply, ram. I was thinking the problem could have been heat, although last night he told me that the side panel on his case is off. As far as I know, everything inside the case has been cleaned of dust bunnies etc, so it shouldn't be overheating...?

I know it could be a couple of things, mobo, ram, vid card.... but leaning towards GPU as it only crashes playing BF2...

I suggested to him last night, to take out all but one of his memory sticks, and run memtest, replacing one stick at a time to see if it could be memory related. I think he'll run through the sticks in the next day or so and drop me a report.

I'll post back with any updated info.. thanks again for the assist..
