Something is really wrong with this story. I wonder what the student did at home that was so horrible that the VP would expose the entire spying operation. Also why exactly would the school authorize their lawsuit and a half? Aside from that what is the likihood that a student even has their laptop running at all times to catch them doing something illegal or evil or whatever. Story seems like bullshit.

More charges have been filed against a Montreal man accused of fiendishly using the internet to trick or coerce girls into posing nude for him on webcams.

Daniel Lesiewicz, 27, of the Montreal suburb of Dorval, was arrested in March and charged with possession and production of child pornography, uttering threats and extortion. Late last week, the Quebec police said additional charges were filed, including multiple counts of luring a child, and unauthorized use of a computer.

Lesiewicz allegedly created a fictitious profile of a girl and used it to befriend girls in chat rooms and persuade them to be photographed with their clothes removed. Later, a man identified as Dave contacted the girls and threatened to post nude photos of them online unless they provided him with additional compromising pictures.

Investigators have located at least 12 victims, some as young as 14. Lesiewicz, the owner of a computer online support company, faces the possibility of a life sentence, according to The Gazette. He has been detained since his arrest on March 19 and is scheduled to have a bail hearing on May 7.

According to an earlier article, Lesiewicz in some cases managed to gain control over some victims' machines after sending them trojan-laced emails. Sophos makes much hay of this detail here, but we think the bigger take-away is to be wary of unknown people in chat rooms, especially when they suggest you send them nude pics of yourself. ®

Sophos rules virus ass.

A life sentence is a bit much imo. I mean, yes, it's horrible what he did, but seriously, he didn't kill anyone.

Since when schools give out free laptops...
Starting 2009, every New South Wales (NSW) public school student in years nine to 12 in Australia will receive a lightweight mini laptop

2009 apparently.
I got a free laptop in Junior High School for 3 years. It was a small school(300 kids) though and they were all Macs.
