Right, I can't make up my mind. I'm leaving it up to you.

I need to get some things clear first. I know sweet fuck all about hardware compared to you guys, please put a little time and effort into putting together a decent rig for me. The entered systems will be entered into a poll and I'll purchase the winning system.

All hardware must be purchased off the same website - komplett.ie and must reach at least the recommended specifications of recent titles like BFBC2 & CoD4. Keep it as cheap as possible, the closer to €500 the better. I do somewhat care about how it looks but I'm happy to pick performance over hawtness.

Please pick variations of the following components:

- Case
- PSU
- Mainboard
- Processor
- Memory
- GPU
- Harddrive
- CD/DVD

Optional components:

- Sound Card
- Blue Ray
- Additional Cooling

Hmm I wouldn't bother with that setup now... it is very similar to what I got a year ago and it will get outdated soon...

Go for the i5 750 and a HD5770

oh, and the Samsung F3's are pretty much the fastest HDDs you can get for the price..

I have a 1TB F1 and never had problems with it, I buy nothing but Samsung F1/F3 HDDs for desktops, all work like a charm...

If I got i5 I have to get a 1126 slot motherboard, and then DDR3 memory. Which are more expensive than the 775/DDR2 comparisons.

Yeah. The other components are fine (case/dvd/hdd).

I don't know what a good Mainboard/processor/RAM/GPU combo would be, for a shitty budget.

It's not like the mobo for an i5 is that expensive... look at the P7P55 LX

As for DDR3, you only need two sticks since the mobo only supports dual channel memory... and it is just not worth it buying C2Ds now...
I love my E8500 sure, but it won't stand a chance against a Quad i5 750 which is ~ the same price...

as for GPU:
If you want to get the best for the least amount of money then there is only the 5770 to consider

i found one with an i5 not too long ago... it was the american newegg, though, so...

But really, it seems like i5 nowadays is really the better choice... it's what I'll be looking at why i finally get enough money to rebuild my desktop.. although they might be up to i57 by that time

The difference in price between the i5/DDR3 system compared to the E8500/DDR2 is only 50 euro. Which is amazing...

For an extra 35 euro I could get this instead:

I would have to recommend the 750 as well. It's not that much more and while the dual core will clock a little higher which will give some benefit in most games, anything that can take advantage of a quad (be it current/upcoming games, encoding) will benefit more from the quad.
