Wait, why did YOU upload porn? Rapidshare is for downloading, it's not like Torrents where you should share. Fuck sharing over RS.
Just use private trackers + alternate country seedbox. Chances they bother tracking that down are pretty much zero

The chances of them bothering to track him down after being caught in the act are pretty much zero.Winston_Churchill wrote:

utorrent ftw
When my account is shared, RS just resets the passwords. They threaten me with account removal, but they'll never do it.Bertster7 wrote:

Fact is, he did get caught. They have the option to track him now, if you dont get caught they dont have the chance to track him.Bertster7 wrote:

and is now in the process of terminating accounts that
have downloaded or stored those copyrighted materials in order to prevent
them from circulating and breaching copyrights again
Pretty sure he was one of the downloaders, not uploaders, but I could well be wrong

It wasn't the fact you downloaded something without copyright law taking place, it was the fact the porn you downloaded was just sick and illegal.

I bet they have a quota of doing this to x amount of users just to keep the legal folk happy. You were just unlucky that they chose you.
There's no way they'd be able to stamp out people using their service for piracy. The only way they can even figure out shit is either if idiots use stupid filenames like "Mass Effect 2 cracked lolololool part1.rar" or if they go to those websites which index all of the rs shit like warez bb and track down the illegal rs files from there.
And that's hard to do for all the content.
I doubt it's RS going down a new policy of cracking down hard on the rampant piracy that goes on its servers.

It's easy to do.
I could do it, so I'm sure they employ someone who could do it.
I got busted for downloading a copy of rosetta stone. sucks too since I had it for free when I was in the army.

Its not like its hard to find those sites either. Its more time consuming than difficult, they could probably find a way to do it automatically if they really cared.Bertster7 wrote:

What's rapidshare?
I haven't been busted for any illegal downloading yet. Then again I don't really do much illegal downloading... I meant hard as in time consuming and the results won't really impact the scale of the issue.
How do people get bused in the first place, is it by just using torrents and shit

Server logs and user activity
Some subscribers are a little concerned about privacy in the light of the current litigation so to put their minds at rest we thought we would explain what the privacy implications are of our logs.
We are currently keeping webserver logs for a period which is sufficient to allow us to defend ourselves against web attacks. However we cannot tell from our logs what NZBs you have downloaded. At all. If we can't do this then neither can any complainant with access to our logs. Furthermore we rotate old logs so that they are deleted.
No request has been made for our logs during the discovery phase of litigation and due to the nature of the legal process that request would have to have been made a long time ago: it wasn't. They cannot now, legally, have it; and moreover they dont actually seem that interested either. The fact is this: they are gunning for Newzbin not you.
Bottom line:
We cannot tell anyone what NZBs you have been using whether those are for Linux distros, porn or just embarrassing lawful material. Don't worry.

Legal update
For those of you worrying about it the case is due to resume on the 2nd March. We are much buoyed by our position despite some hiccups earlier on in the trial. The extra counsel are providing useful additional horsepower and we are confident that we will prevail.
Some people have speculated that if we lose we may be closed down, but even the MPA isn't arguing for that: what's being debated is the manner in which we operate not whether we operate. You can be assured that the Newzbin will go on in a form you will continue to find useful, though there may need to be adjustments depending on the judgement.
The message we want you to take away is that, win or lose, you can be confident that the site is here to stay in the long term.
