I didnt think the story was so bad in SC1, I think everyone expects way too much out games.

I mean it had an acceptable amount of backstory and scale.

What the fuck did you expect for 1997?
I don't care, it was still a fuckin brilliant game even without a half decent story.

I am in no way critisizing the first.. I am just stating that they should have been able to do better OR not claim in their interviews that they had an "immersive" storyline this time around...

Awesome game was awesome.

For its time, even compared to some new RTS games, it has a lot of unique features.

Things like reclaiming wrecks, planes crashing into your shit. Wind, solar and tidal power? D-gun

Of course I assume TA was the first with those things.

I like the story so far.. I'm only on the second level though. Never really found as much fun in Campaign as in Skirmish in any RTS.. I don't like being limited

I loved that the first brought the first ever true "hitreg" system to RTS, where everything is fired at a target and can then hit anything they encounter in their path. Rather than a "hit/miss" system like Warcraft, or a certain hit like C&C...

I saw a youtube video of someone shooting down aircraft with an Experimental artillery because the aircraft just happened to be in the shell trajectory of the artillery

Oh shit. Forgot all about that.

indeed.

In fact, the whole long range artillery/radar/etc stuff itself is pretty damn awesome all around.

Best thing about TA for me was the way the planes moved. not like Starcraft where the just moved in eight directions like clunky pieces of shit. Planes in TA were things of beauty, and getting a nice troop of 30 brawlers floating over your enemy's base was a sight to behold. Even dogfights were just awesome, I could watch those for ages.

No other RTS game has ever captured that motion of air combat...except SC1.

Fuck yes, I do!

I will now:
1) Go listen to the TA soundtrack while I...
2) Install TA, both expansions, all official addons and some selected customs units.

Edit:
Listen!

Yeah, unlike other above mentioned RTSs where Artillery is just a tank unit with 2x the range

Maybe it's got something to do with the fact that you've been spouting "terrible terrible damage" in almost all of the responses you give. We get it, you want to have Dustin Browder's children and have Starcraft 2 orgies.

SC isn't an acronym.

To expand on that:

http://www.lyberty.com/encyc/articles/abbr.html

StarCraft is one word, but made with two. Initials seem to be the proper term, but colloquially SC is overwhelmingly called an acronym.

Supreme Commander was actually a pretty good game. A very complex one though I found it quite hard to get into infact I never got into it. The game just took forever to do on campaign mode! Most battles I found needed to be won with masses of units, which basically just destroyed my computer.
