I think what people mean is that it was pretty impersonal compared to some of the more character-driven strategy games like Starcraft's campaign and the Warcraft series.TimmmmaaaaH wrote:
I didnt think the story was so bad in SC1, I think everyone expects way too much out games.
I mean it had an acceptable amount of backstory and scale.
i like your style... "that's a nice base you got there, and a nice army... pity it won't be use when i fire a shell every second at your acu"FloppY_ wrote:

Supreme Commander was actually a pretty good game. A very complex one though I found it quite hard to get into infact I never got into it. The game just took forever to do on campaign mode! Most battles I found needed to be won with masses of units, which basically just destroyed my computer.

I'm going to install the first game again I think after reading this thread.
You actually had it uninstalledSpidery_Yoda wrote:

Anyway, remember to play Forged Alliance and not the original, or you will enjoy the bitterness that is 50% screenblock by UI
Your thoughts, insights, and musings on this matter intrigue me
Indeed it's the worst UI design i've ever seen.

My god the video transmission thingies in the campaign are corny.

Game's fun, but I just don't know if multiplayer will lag like SuCo1.

It's out on the scene, downloading now
(Don't worry kiddies, this is definitely a purchase when I have the cash!)

Gah I'm trying to like it but I just can't. They've improved on very little while removing most of the things which made the first game good (resource system, big maps, super experimentals). Also a unit cap of 500?? Thank you xbox 360.
The one good thing I can say about it is the pace and character development have improved.Aries_37 wrote:

terribad game imho. super corny cutscenes, which are not even skippable -_-
the models have improved, but whats with those textures/color schemes?? makes the units look like toys.
everything from the first game, which made it feel "supreme" is gone now, i.e. huge maps/bad ass experimentals etc.

You can skip them, you just have to hit the check box before you start the mission.Mugen wrote:

It's a ridiculous solution, but there you go.
Well the game's not as bad as I initially thought. They've balanced ACU rushing and PD spam which were never really nerfed properly in the first game. Repair and reclaim are now massively important. The game's are much faster paced, it's not all bad.
The one thing I don't like is the smaller maps and limited army sizes. I mean, turrets count for your max population, and all you get is 300?Aries_37 wrote:

Played the game yesterday. Will see if it tops TA Spring. Can't be worse than SC1, at least.
It is worse.. I much prefer SC1. This game is much more 'playable', though, games are shorter, maps are smaller, and it runs a lot better.BLdw wrote:

I'm a bit .. meh about 'experimentals'. Before it was if you got an experimental, it would be game over pretty much. Now you need quite a few of them to get the same effect.
If I recall, SC1 experimentals had monster-sized Achilles' heels that you could easily exploit with even tier 1 units.Finray wrote:

I only ever played against bots, they never made experimentals so I never had to figure out how to beat them.
Low difficulty? I remember the AI sending assloads of monkey lords at me.Finray wrote:

Aeon t3 AA gunships raped pretty much everything in FA, unless they were patched later on. Whenever I played with mates, I went from losing every game to winning.
I find that SC2 is just spamming the right units to counter what the enemy has spammed. The research system means you can effectively change your mind later on, as you should have been spending your points in land/air/navy for those +10% health/damage and assorted +15/20% damage research options.
In saying that though, it can be fun using some of the more out there experimentals to help you win. The other day I played a 2v2 online with a friend, we both spammed those aeon (sorry, "illuminate") assault bots you can upgrade with AA. He rushed the front and I built that massive teleporter and came from behind. Didnt matter how many experimentals and shit they had, those bots counter air and ground and we had hundreds cause they are so cheap.
I am sure against "pro" players that wouldnt work, but mainly because they would more effectively spam and have lots of units in your base early.
Guess what I am saying is I have decided I dont like RTS against humans, and even the AI in this game which rushes the fuck out of you both early and the constantly streams guys at you whether set as turtle AI or not.
Maybe I just dont like RTS at all.

I'm actually more of a comp stomp guy. The RTS pvp community seems far too smug and pretentious, and it makes the angsty UT2k4 lot look like a friendly Mr. Rogers fan club.TimmmmaaaaH wrote:

RTS is more "lol dont know the perfect build order? noob."
As much as I hate the really douchebaggy FPS players, I prefer them as a whole over the RTS stuff. Mainly I think because being good at an FPS requires slightly more than just 2000 hours of playtime. Not much though.
This' very often very true. Very often asking anything from anyone will provide very shitty, or non-existent answer.TimmmmaaaaH wrote:

TBS game society seems to be way better though.
Well, I was referring to how SC1 runs. Multiplayer in SC1 was (is) super awesome! Hah.Finray wrote:
