$750 yeah? That's really in-keeping with the pricerange.Winston_Churchill wrote:
I'll take this instead kthx
I didnt say what class it should be in. Plus, it was on sale 2 days ago for $400. But still, I'd rather have an absolutely amazing monitor and mid-high end computer than mediocre monitor and really expensive computer.
You said "instead" implying it should be a competitor to the one I posted.Winston_Churchill wrote:

I'd rather have a good computer and 1680x1050 @120FPS than a crap computer and 1920x1200 that can barely manage 30FPS at the native res.
How did mid-high end turn into crap?Finray wrote:

And not all of us play games, my computer most demanding use is usually watching movies... rarely with the occasional game.
Okay, mid-end computer. Regardless, no mid-end computer by most definitions will be able to run current-gen games at 1920x1200 with any decent frame rates.
Sure, there's different applications, but if asked for a monitor for uses other than gaming I wouldn't suggest the one I did. There's no point in 120Hz outside of gaming.

Winston, you voted with your wallet - you got to pick the piece of hardware that suited your needs.Winston_Churchill wrote:

fuck sake Finray, this isn't even your thread - let us have a bicker free hardware thread, i'm trying to get ideas for a build. please stop.
finray, a budget monitor isn't high end, it's budget.
Isnt that what Finray is doing with his 3D monitor? We all need that
It's a sexy IPS monitor, beats the crap out of the TN ones recommended.

Mid: GTX 260/275
Price irrelevant: GTX295 (soon to be replaced by GT300/400 if they live up to the hype)

I'm doing this thread 'cause you, amongst other people couldn't be arsed to do it. I do know what I'm on about, so stop with the superiority-complex and start actually contributing to the thread, instead of being a fucking tool. A £220 monitor is not high end. It's mid-price.Finray wrote:
Lol Cammy you obviously know nothing. Why are you doing this thread?
On topic, will update later on tonight

Dont think that the 5770 and the 5870 should go together in mid range.
Theres a £200 price difference...

I'd type my pc specs out all fancy again but teh mods would remove it. Again.
x2, maybe a 5850 but even then there should be another class, like normal high end.presidentsheep wrote:

AMD Processors:
Not sure which category to put it in but AMD Phenom II X4 940 Black Edition is somewhere between mid and price irrelevant. $155 just seems too much for budget.
Price Irrelevant: AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition

Got mine on a mid range budget, spent about £600 in all, minus HDD and monitors.ebug9 wrote:

amd doesnt really have any super high end processors like the i7s.

Phenom II X4 940 Gets my vote for the AMD mid budget.
For high end:

Not very expensive, got good potential for overclocking though

OFF topic: Maybe this should be extended to a subfolder in tech. I can feel a bottleneck coming!

120Hz monitor is undoubtedly best in class for FPS gaming, there be no misuderstanding. But if you are photoeditor and don't game, obviously your needs are very different.
That 700€ drooling good IPS panel is not doing much good in games, and that 120Hz monster isn't doing very well in photoediting...

I'd rather have vibrant, accurate colours and huge viewing angles than remove a motion blur you'll likely never even see.
Have you even tried a 120Hz panel? Do you game FPS games? And motion blur is one of the most minor things 120Hz fixes, you'd know that if you had tried.Winston_Churchill wrote:

As much you love slow IPS, it is ment for whole different use than gaming.

I thought we had a tech open thread for discussion.
On a side note, there's definitely a noticeable difference with 120Hz even on a 50" television.

Yes. Yes. Makes less of a difference.GC_PaNzerFIN wrote:

And again, there is far, far more to do with computers than play FPS games. 6ms really isnt slow at all...
Anyway, last post I'll do in here, we're off topic enough already.
