Just saying that you doubt the value of quiet rotors on helicopters because fixed wing aircraft can intimidate ground troops? Hell, I'll be sure to drop by in any of your threads in the future and "just say" whatever irrelevant commentary I have on my mind.11 Bravo wrote:

Do what just as well? What, you think some guys sat down and said "alright, we need to really intimidate the enemy with a show of force, so let's make a helicopter that's lightly armed and totally quiet"? Are you suggesting that the A-10 and the Eurocopter Tiger are meant to fill out identical roles, and face the same threats while doing so? Hell, why use helicopters at all? We've got A-10s!11 Bravo wrote:
actually no...it was not. everyone has a hard on about silent helos, but a big loud gun can do just as well. fucking dumb fuck.

That's fantastic, but you spoke of the exploits of some other pilot you knew. The recounted experience wasn't first hand. It was second hand.11 Bravo wrote:

He speaks from second hand experience about providing air support for ground troops in an heavy fixed wing aircraft. You're posting about quiet rotor technology for helicopters and their value on gunships used for insertion. Unless you've heard of using A-10s for quiet insertion, I don't see the relevance at all.ATG wrote:

As a gunship, as an insertion tool, there is no argument that quieter is not better.
god i hate euros.
Firstly we all know how loud helicopters are (and that first one was nowhere near as loud)ATG wrote:

Secondly that was inboard sound, what you hear inside the chopper, they probably do all sorts of soundproofing + headphones and all that shit to protect those inside from the noise
Thirdly this new blade design might only help those inside anyway, it'll be interesting to see how silent this rotor is when this helicopter is flying over your house with a giant searchlight looking for that gun i threw away
Not saying it's cool, just don't expect to not hear it flying above when you see it or for it to be much quieter

marine surely it would be better to have a silent chopper that you can outfit with speakers blaring flight of the valkyries than just a loud chopper?
I would think it would be very intimidating to have a chopper that you can't hear until it's right on top of you on the other side. Then once it's there it can make with the boom boom bang bang.

ive never been on a helicopter that I could I hold a conversation in without screaming it.

Well it proves what I said then, the outside sounds aren't that much different... it's cool stillghettoperson wrote:

Plus all the samples sound quiet/muffled, when I hear it myself or see better videos I'll believe it

Amazingly, never had that problem.ATG wrote:
I would be in favor of polize having it because whenever some douche nozzle gets upitty and they send the chopper out you are up and awake until they stop circling the neighborhood.
Also hasn't this technology been used for 20+ years on things like the Westland Merlin?
The main rotor blades are a derivative of the BERP rotor blade design, which improves the aerodynamic efficiency at the blade tips, as well as reducing the blade's noise signature.

fyi... you can still hear these kind of choppers from pretty far away. no matter how the designer tries to sell it.

Yes we know Apaches are the god of long range anti-armor. You know that other attack choppers still fly close air support though, like the Warthog example? Shit it's not like you guys have any Apaches, the Marines have Vipers exclusively don't they?
So they got rid of the vortexes on the edge of the rotor or something?
Haven't they been doing that with passenger jets for years?

yeah I thought the super cobra variant was called the Viper
i dunno. twas a grunt. i call for help, i dont care what shows up.Flaming_Maniac wrote:

I'm just saying the Apache isn't necessarily oriented at being that help when you call. The Apache was designed to take out fields of Soviet armor, and in that sense it is unbeatable. This chopper is for a different role.
IT WAS JUST ONE EXAMPLE. fuck.
I think 11 Bravo is 11 years old and just pretends to be all grown up.ATG wrote:

That's what his posts demonstrate.
Anyway, OT the rotors could prove useful to civilian flights as well, since travelling by heli is friggin loud currently and not comfortable generally speaking, in my limited experience.
miss me modding yet? lol11 Bravo wrote:
