Episode was decent but I'm getting the feeling there's no progression. Looks like that changes next week.

Where the hell was Leckie? Seeing timmy the whole time was cool and all but I guess Leckie was done when he left on that boat at the end of VI?

He was internally bleeding... I'm sure he'll return home to Vera (or maybe even Sheila or whatever that Aussie broad's name is) and we'll see more of him, but I'd imagine when it comes to combat, he's done.

Basilone looks like he's coming back... is Part VIII Iwo Jima? Seemed like it.

ok so ep 7, is it implied that our current protaganist (the mortar guy) shot that marine because he thought he was a jap? or the marine died because of the japs that jumped in his foxhole?

and when they were stretchering the guy back, and he got shot again why was everyone so sad?

Some other guy shot the marine, Sledgehammer was supposed to be watching though and he thought it was a jap, he didn't shoot though.

tl;dr sledgehammer didn't shoot the other marine.

I think it was the marine who was crying afterwards the one who shot him.

Ya pretty graphic. But most of the series is based off of Sledge's book (With the Old Breed) in which he doesn't hold back on the details.

k I watched all of the episodes thus far, and one thing I noticed is that there are no black peeps?

Over 2.5 million African-American men registered for the draft, and black women also volunteered in large numbers. While serving in the Army, Army Air Forces, Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard, they experienced discrimination and segregation but met the challenge and persevered.
Wth I havent seen any in the Pacific lol well its still an awsm show.... but would like to see how they were discriminated against or they should of showed something along those lines.....

They were generally relegated to service units; driving trucks, cooking, handling cargo.  I haven't seen any episodes of The Pacific so I don't know if they show any ancillary details.

Spoiler (highlight to read):
They completely changed Basilone's death compared to what really happened: "As he moved along the edge of the airfield, an exploding mortar shell instantly killed him."

I must say, the death of Basilone, even though I knew it was coming made me sad. They did a really good job building his character in the show. Episode VIII is well worth the watch and the one that saves the series from being forgettable imo.

they could have done sooo much better with all they had to work with. it feels like it was just thrown together. i still enjoyed it, but i wish they would have spent more time polishing it

It wasn't a coherent or cohesive series in the slightest. It's like they had nine different directors each write their own script and then go out shooting it. Why so much backstory was inserted is beyond me as well aside from it being on HBO and them wanting to throw tits into it.

The only problem I have with this one is lack of cohesion, meaning...

In Band of Brothers, it was about the entire unit.  Each episode told a different aspect of army life.

This one is about incidents that lack depth and cohesiveness.  In other words, I think they should have focused on less people, or at least focused on one unit for a longer period.

Why they didn't explain why the Navy was important to the campaign is beyond me as well.

I would have dropped the Medal of Honor guy out of the series, spent more time with each battle, get a little Navy/aircraft carrier action, drop the off-the-line stuff.  It seems like they needed more segments to do it right.

The series comes off like dude wakes up, shoots at stuff, gets shot at, it sucks, sleeps, and then wakes up, shoots at stuff, gets shot at...it's repetitive.  Yet that's what it was like as a grunt.

Last episode was good...I wish they were all like that.

I finished episode nine now. Only 1 more to go.

I was hoping for something better. First there was Leckie, then Eugene and finally John. I think they should have just stayed with Eugene and his friend who was on Guadalcanal.

They didn't focus on the unit, they showed random men with random moments. If they had stuck with one unit, it would have been better to understand what was going on, what they felt and went through together.

So basically, as a recap, it was.

[SPOILER]

Episode 1 : A few shots went off at Guadalcanal (Following Lecki and John)
Episode 2 : A bunch of machine guns shooting at japs charging you as they got cut to pieces (Leckie, but mostly John, I think...)
Episode 3 : Leckie has passionat sex with Stella (Leckie)
Episode 4 : A couple Marines shoot up some japs, Leckie pisses himself then goes to an asylum (Leckie)
Episode 5 : John bangs some hot chick, Eugene and Leckie rest, they get shot at after landing - end (All three)
Episode 6 : The Marines run through an artillery barrage and get raped, Eugene is fine but thirsty, Leckie gets hit by a shock wave and takes a perm vacation (Eugene, and Leckie)
Episode 7 : Eugene gets shot at, Eugene rests, Eugene gets shot at, boss dies, Eugene rests (Eugene)
Episode 8 : John bangs an Italian and goes off to get shot in the gut (John)
Episode 9 : Eugene is halfway through Okinawa and shoots some Japs, fires a few dud mortars, then gets all sad (Eugene)

Did I miss some other random people that the story just randomly followed?

I don't even know what freaking USMC unit is, nor who anybody other than Eugene, John, Leckie, Skipper and that weird guy who talks slow who's pals with Eugene.

In BoB there was like the whole freaking unit you got to know. Not much action though tbh. It was still the most epic.
