Has anybody done/tried this? Did you have any luck?
When I first read this I thought you were talking about playing BF2 while drinking or doing drugs
Sorry I don't have any real information to contribute

I would suggest a bold Cabernet. I know jack shit about grape juice
My state was founded by Batman. Your opinion is invalid.
I am not sure about how well it runs under wine. You ought to get a good idea by looking at the Cedega web page and see how well BF2 works if you have Cedega. They give it ratings. It might go better with Cedega than with just Wine.
One thing that won't work well is if you virtualize a windows installation with eg VirtualBox. The 3d graphics settings don't go well in virtualization.
Actually things look good:

Won't be good. BF2 engine isn't very openGL friendly.
It sucks, I don't even know if multiplayer works, but if it did, I'd be using Linux Mint as my main OS.
Screenshots of it working have glitches all over them, the floor is missing 99% of the time and black textures all over the place.
Saying that there is no way in hell you'd be able to play online, let alone survive PB.
Cedega is meant to be more compatable than Wine, and faster, but what's the point of it, you have to pay a subscription fee.
If you really want Linux as your main OS, do what I did and create a 15GB partition (size I worked out to be perfect just for XP and BF2) for a tweaked XP and BF2 and dual boot it, I just named XP as "BF2" under the Grub bootloader

I once alt-tabbed while BF2 was loading, when I connected, I couldn't see the ground.
