How can I easily play MKV files on my Windows 7 Media Centre/Player whatnot so I can watch on my xbox and TV?

Why the hell can't MS just let them be played anyway?

wtf is the point of them when there's plenty of good filetypes anyway?

Are mkv uploaders full of shit or what?

Any help appreciated

MKV is an excellent file type.

Matroska wrappers > avi wrappers.

You just need the right codec packs - and Windows Media Player is rubbish, don't use it.

Easiest way is to install a codec pack.

I use Shark007, and it works wonders.

Also if you have a 64 bit, you'll have ot install the normal one, and then the 64 bit addon.

I've only ever had one issue with the movie up, where it failed at previewing. Simply turning off FFDShow worked.

EDIT: MKVs are by far the best encode that is currently available.

I mean fuck... 300MB movies... that's incredible.
