don't really get why anyone would buy a used CL63.  Either you have the money to buy it or you don't, stop acting like you are rich when you aren't.

Is a GT-R faster than an M3?

Cars depreciate like hell, I'm not sure I'd ever buy a new car. It's not an acting rich thing, it's a 'he wants one' thing. They're just out of his budget.

Yes, and within budget, but the engines explode far too often.

Performance costs.  anything that accelerates to 60mph in 3.5 seconds is gunna blow up.

Then fixing a CL63 is out of his budget.  Owning a CL63 is out of his budget.  It just seems silly to me.

Hence why he's not buying one.

So, he wants an expensive, high performance car that is reliable and inexpensive to maintain?  Doesn't exist.

No, they're all expensive to maintain, he gets that. Hell, he just spend 1.5k on tyres for his M3. Just GTR's are insanely unreliable. There's no other supercar out there that regularly leaves chunks of engine all over the highway.

EDIT: He also said the interior looks like a Mini. Apparently he test drove one before getting the M3. He said it was hilariously fast though.

GTR's a two seater as well. The launch control is fucked after like 20 goes, and they are generally unreliable. I wouldn't do it

actually have they fixed launch control thing?

Nope. People just stopped using it, so now that the transmissions have stopped being the point of failure, the engines took over. They're a fucking disaster.

You can get a Mustang GT500 new for less than his budget price. Super charged V8 engine. Faster than a M3 and handles the same.

If he can't really afford anything "better" than an M3 why doesn't he upgrade what he's got?  Forced induction?

That's what i was thinking, but...

why not look at the M5?
Because it's no faster than the M3. Unrestricted they both top out at similar speeds, and the M3 has the edge in acceleration. The problem with tuning companies is that he doesn't want to go and spend the price of a car under the hood. Also, it'll be even worse for depreciation; the instant he tries to resell it, the 30k or whatever he's spend on tuning will add maybe 10k to what he could have already sold it for.

I've never really been into skylines but that thing is fucking mental, 0-60 in around 3 seconds

I wouldn't say that, he's got a few options. RS4/6, 911 997, R8, even a slightly older Gallardo. Just wondering if you guys could come up with something.

Top Gear reckons it goes around their track 3 seconds slower than an M3, so I somehow doubt it handles as well.

Then it sounds like he's fucked.  Insane performance costs insane money.

Yeah I think there was a 2005 on PistonHeads that fell within his budget. But yes, as Dauntless rightly points out they're pretty obvious lol

Both rear wheel drive V8's. Handling shouldn't be that much different.

lol, there is a lot more that dictates a cars handling than front or rear wheel drive and number of cylinders.
