Going to STRP Festival tommorow.
It's a 10-day Art & Technology festival, but i only bought a ticket for 1 concert and the exhibition (saturday).

Here's a copy + paste of the line-up:
Aphex Twin, Collabs (Chris Liebing & Speedy J), James Holden, Len Faki, Fairmont, DVS1, Michael Mayer, Mathew Jonson, ROD, Nathan Fake, Thomas Martojo, E.D.G.E., Makcim & EL-P, 360 Soundsystem.

oneohtrix point never. in a church. playing entire new album. huge sound system. really nice concert. incredibly hard to film though because it was so dark for most of the show. so i didn't film any particular 'highlight', just a part where my camera could actually focus on shit.

Huge sound system or not, wouldn't you have to cover the entire church with foam to get rid of the insane echo?

the whole point of playing live shows in a church... is for the echo. the whole reason churches are built... is for the echo. choirs and stuff, you know? they kinda thrive on... echo. reverb. expansive sound. a sense of transcendence. walls of sound reverberating and filling you with awe. has worked since the dark ages so i don't see why people would wanna start covering churches in soundproof foam now. also in response to your karma: you'd never hear opn in a club. he doesn't ever use drums, for a start. no drum beat in a club is like having no titties in a hooters bar.

I wouldn't know about him and clubs. It was just a simple way to state that location wouldn't matter as far the quality of the album.

And as far as the echo. I have never been to a show in a church, i just thought it wouldn't be the best place to play. But sure, if you're going for echo look no further.
We have a club built in a church here, but if it has been completely renovated and you wouldn't recognise it as a church (inside or out) so i can't say that i have ever experienced an echoy show.

this place is in the middle of the city, just around the corner from covent garden and oxford street, the really nice shopping areas. so it's not really like a provincial church - but they haven't changed it at all. the whole point of church shows are the acoustics. echo might be bad if you're listening to a metal band hammering on cymbals and making a lot of noise (i.e. dissonance), but for ambient shows and drone shows it's fantastic. it's a natural acoustic way of achieving the effect that most ambient musicians try to get using digital/analogue effects, anyway. the sound bounces around and literally washes over you. in a long sustained piece, say by the 5 minute mark you're really just completely awash with sound... so many layers and small unique effects according to where you're sat, or how it hits you. it's nice. plus the setting is really serene and just feels apropos for that sort of show. everyone sat in pews, concentrating, or being transported off somewhere else, dreamlike. it's a very nice gig set-up. everyone should go to a church show.

I just woke up from my slumber after an amazing night at STRP Festival.
Exhibition contained some pieces that were interesting, but also loads that were just too farfetched.

As far as the music goes, it was amazing. I didn't watch the each and every show, but i have seen enough to have had a great time.
There were 2 halls: Hall number 1 had some deep techno mixed with some house here and there and just riddled with strong ambient tones and hall number 2 had amazing visuals but a lot of 'dark and dirty dubstep' was played there.
A huge difference between the two halls as far as styles and tastes go, but overall the music in hall 1 was of higher quality than in 2.

And of course the main act. The reason everyone was there in the first place:
Aphex Twin.

Did an amazing one and a half hour set. It felt like he adapted his music to appeal more to the Dutch crowd (i.e: Lots of sections with a pounding bass that made the eardrums shake and fast beats). The visuals in the background were stunning and made experiencing the music that much better.
People went spassing out like it was the 90's

Great show

holy shit that was awesome. Red Fang is a great band that I definitely wanna listen to now. Dillinger Escape Plan sounded amazing and were so energetic, holy fuck you'd think they were on speed. And Mastodon kicked major ass, their vocals have never sounded better. Gonna upload some videos of Dillinger, no Mastodon videos since the venue staff decided to be pricks and didn't let me record any more.

those gigs are just full of angry macbethian misanthropes and rejects being angry and living out their teen fantasies of killing that girl in high school that turned them down that one time near the water fountain and must PAY
