How about this: allow the kids to age like in 'real' sitcoms.

Not as funny as it used to be. You put 'The Simpson' in quotes so shouldn't it be Is 'The Simpsons' still funny?
With or without quotes, it is both a title (the show) and a plural (the characters). In this case, 'are' sounds better colloquially.

I have the first five seasons on DVD, but I haven't been tempted to throw $30 down to get up to whatever they are now. At least they show creativity in the Halloween specials.

The Simpsons still have their moments. Honestly I haven't watched in ages but I still give them the benefit of the doubt. The very fact that old episodes that I've seen hundreds of times before still get a laugh out of me has got to be worth something.

Well, the old episodes are pretty good. The question is whether or not the new ones are up to par.

They aren't. Saw a new one a couple weeks ago and it was decidedly subpar. It generally tried too hard to be funny.

i love the classic old simpsons when they reflected every day life with humor, now it's what's the simpsons next big hair-brained adventure. I can roll with the new direction but even it if hasn't changed, after a while the jokes/punchline/storyline get redundant and old.  I "tried" to watch the latest episodes but "meh" all I can say.

The sad thing is it's still better than 1/2 of the crap that's brand new. It's not as good as it was, but it's still better than most.

The golden age of the Simpsons was when Conan O'Brien was writing for the show.  If you think about all your favorite episodes they probably fall into a 3-4 season arc, all why CoCo was writing.  That guy is just pure genius.

I was just singing, "Lisa it's your birthday. Happy Birthday Lisa" the other day.  Classic.

Or, "No tv and no beer make homer something something."  "Go crazy?"  Don't mind if I dooo!"

I think it had something to do with the change of producers. I think the current ones are battling for ratings against Family Guy/American Dad etc, whereas the older ones just went with the flow.
I remember back in the day of 2003 when I'd watch the Simpsons the previous night, then talk about the funny bits at school the next day with my friends. Oh the good times.

Seasons 3-10 were the golden years imo. They did jump the shark when SKinner became Tanzarian, but I still found it funny for a couple of seasons after that. Now it just lacks the heart that it had years ago.

I noticed there's a bit more random scenes going on in "The Simpsons" like how Family Guy always goes off track for a few seconds, but at least they try to work it into plot relevancy.

Yeah Ive seen it happening a few times, like when they go to Italy with Sideshow Bob or something (cant rememeber full plot), and Bob goes on some crazy rant or something that...isnt really on par with the way the Simpsons have been doing before that. It was like a new show, but with old characters.
