don't tell me how to appreciate my own countries' brand of humour. no offence but there's no way anyone of a non-english sensibility 'understands' our humour like it's supposed to be understood. not to the full extent. peep show is funny but this guy is on a different level. nob jokes, eat your heart out.

Mate, I'm half English and lived 21 years in the UK so I'm quite up-to-date with English humour thanks. I'm also not 'telling you' anything so chillax yeah?

I agree Chris Morris is a kind of twisted genius. Brass Eye, Day Today, Nathan Barley, I'm a fan of them all. To be honest I'm not much of a fan of Peep Show although I think it's very clever, but the IT Crowd is one of the best British comedies to come out in ages, and it's writer, Graham Linehan, who I'm sure you know also co-wrote Father Ted, is also a genius. I dunno if you've seen all the IT Crowd but anyone with a sense of humour must judge S2E1 to be one of the funniest half-hours ever. It is possible to appreciate both y'know since they have different comedy 'styles'.

It's not true that anyone who hasn't been born/is English can appreciate the sense of humour.

I'll definitely check out Four Lions anyway.

it is true; proper europeans and americans just don't 'get' it. show them monty python and half the effect is lost on them. most of british humour is so irreverent, self-deprecating and deadpan that people just don't get the punchlines; it's like the american office - it 'worked', but the full impact of almost all of gervais' writing was lost. not even a hollywood-quality cast could do it full justice.

chris morris is my main man. brass eye is fucking fantastic. i get the feeling with morris that he has a style and a niche, and goes at it 100%. with the peep show and it crowd writers, i get the impression that a bunch of incredibly intelligent comedians are dumbing down their stuff for a larger audience. most of the gags that mitchell comes up with on peep show make me wince. he can do a lot better.

anyone else into paul kaye/dennis pennis, by the way? pretty vulgar and low-rent himself... but another comedian that you get the feeling has 'more' to give and more 'thought' behind his acts than is immediately apparent.

Paul Kaye is a genius, i usually would use that term in a sarcastic form but i honestly mean it in this example. Dennis Pennis never disappointed, always delivered and always imitated.

he got slaughtered for Nathan Barley, no idea why, it was such a brilliant piss take. perhaps due to it being aimed at a younger generation who could relate to it better.
