i never really look at that stuff before buying stuff (stupid i know), and i think i might be getting scammed. they sent me the shipping confirmation the next day, but they gave me an invalid tracking #. i tried emailing the seller but havent heard anything yet. should i be worried? the estimated delivery date is may 27, which strikes me as odd because it shouldnt take more than a few days. should i give it a few more days, or should i go ahead and file a claim with amazon?

Give 'em half a chance. Let them know you're suspicious and need proper confirmation within 48 hours, or you'll be forced to take further action. Keep your tone civil but firm.
Tracking IDs can take up to 48 hours to be usable, give it time. While you're waiting talk to your credit card provider to see what insurance they give for online transactions.

Once ordered a pair of books with a delivery estimate of some two weeks. Showed up three days later.
In that case I'd start asking questions, give em a prod and see wtf is going on, I wouldn't worry about it too much. I'd imagine Amazon covers dodgy sellers using their site but, card providers usually cover this sort of thing too. Also as it went through Amazon's checkout system they wont have any of your card details so it's just a case of reclaiming the funds.
