So I'm looking into getting an LCD TV/HDTV (something with VGA in)

Somewhere around 32 inches.

I used to follow the market but stopped a while ago,

What should I expect to pay for something with decent brand name/response speed/contrast/resolution/etc?

Links to Canadian retailers appreciated.

I'd say around $600-650 for a 1080p 32"

$450-500 for a regular HDTV 32"

Go to BestBuy or Futureshop (or some other major television/electronics retailer in BC) and ask for a Samsung 32" 1080p TV.

99% of the video I'll be watching would be at 720p anyways, so 1080 would be an unnecessary upgrade, but that was about where I thought the prices would be, thanks.

On that model you listed, is 6ms response the actual response or just the response of the panel/processor/whatever.

We have a 42" Samsung in the family room that we got a couple years ago and that one has total shit response, tried playing BF2 on it and it sucked. Gaming isn't a major aspect of this but if it happens to be quick enough to game, I'm happy.

Karma'd.

You could look into 120Hz if you think you might use it for games, but that's quite a bit more money. And yeah 6ms should be the actual response time.

I doubt I'll ever use it for serious gaming, I have a 21" monitor for that and my bed (where I would be playing from) doesn't make it easy for a keyboard/mouse, but if it works well then it's a nice bonus if I decide to use a gamepad or something.
