Dalai Lama's Message of Peace

Stressing the commonality of mankind, the Dalai Lama delivered the keynote speech at The Bridge Conference, a Tibetan and Chinese youth dialogue project hosted by Hunter College. "We are all the same human beings, mentally, physically and emotionally," said the Tibetan spiritual leader, who was in New York for a four-day appearance at Radio City Music Hall in May. "Everybody wants a happy life. That's a basic human right." The 14th Dalai Lama and Nobel Peace Prize winner has lived in exile in Dharamsala, India, since an uprising against Chinese authorities failed in 1959. "Openness and freedom of speech are essential," he explained. "With fear and police watching, how can harmony develop? Harmony by gun is impossible."

streaming is slow: downloading is faster

Maybe reading out of context but:
There are more than one way (gun) to harm one another. How can you live in harmony when you have those who have no considerations of their actions with a driving force focused on themselves rather than the greater good of a community. My belief: it is the local community that people need to takes care one another, but most people think of a community as a resale value of their home. Aside from this, as long as people look for a father-figure or a superhero to take care of any plight quickly and swiftly, they will not take action. every one has a part but when good men do nothing, evil triumphs.
people need to get out of their comfort zone, set aside their personal feelings, and not completely rely on the other guy (govt., god) to take care of the problem.

depends.  Happiness is relative.  Most 1st world people define happiness as a new apple product or 300+ TV channels.  A lot of other people define happiness as being able to feed, clothe, and shelter their family in a safe environment.  I'd say those are certainly basic human rights, or they should be.

killer statement

There is no requirement for society to make you happy. At all. The entire notion intrinsically sets itself up for failure. There is a reason nobody says this.

I don't think the earth gives a fuck about rights.

happiness is a human goal, not a natural right.

do you consider that correct, or more correct?

Completely correct assuming what is considered a goal by one person might not by another, i.e. not all people might consider happiness as a goal necessarily, though I don't know of a better one.

It was annoying in the first place because stating happiness is a right is not just incorrect, it's counter-productive.

Security is a right that people deserve. Granted, people don't always get their rights, but that's life.
